We may be past the halfway mark of 2020, but there're still plenty of great games on the way!

Not to mention, there are still several highly-anticipated games yet to come out this year, potentially making 2020 one of the better years for releases in a long time.

With that said, here is a look at ten of the most anticipated console games set to come out before the end of 2020.

The famous first-person shooter series Halo is back again with another instalment. We can expect Halo Infinite to drop sometime during the holiday season.

Halo Infinite, also known as Halo Six, is the fourteenth overall game of the series. To many, this game needs little introduction and is expected to be one of the most highly-anticipated games to come out in late 2020.

Details were very slim until late July, but a few things about Halo Infinite had been confirmed:

  • Master Chief is the central character of the storyline
  • Halo Infinite takes place after the events of Guardians
  • Forge mode returns in Halo Infinite

During the Xbox Games Showcase, however, a decent amount of gameplay was shown off, as you can see below.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Release Date: Holiday 2020

Platform(s): PlayStation 5

With Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) being a huge success, there is plenty of hype built around its successor. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set to come out in late 2020.

This is the second game developed by Insomniac Games in the Spider-Man series.

Although PlayStation confirmed that this game would be about half the length of the original, it is still considered a standalone game, with the main focus being on Miles Morales.

On top of that, there is still plenty to like about this game. As the latest Spider-Man instalment takes its talents to the next-gen, and is made exclusively for the PS5

So, users can expect Insomniac Games to take full advantage of the new technology offered by the PS5, including more realistic graphics, fluid character movements, and overall better gameplay presentation.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

The Crash Bandicoot series is back with its eighth main instalment, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.

The popular platform game has a rich history in the gaming space that has stood the test of time, with its earliest instalment developed by Naughty Dog way back in 1996 on the PS1.

This time around, Crash Bandicoot 4 is developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision.

One of the biggest changes implemented in the game is that players are allowed to switch between Crash and Coco.

Additionally, players are also given the ability to control Doctor Neo Cortex (the antagonist of the game) to help them successfully overcome obstacles in different areas of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077

Release Date: 19 November 2020

Platform(s): Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, Microsoft Windows

Unlike other games on this list, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated role-playing games (RPG) set to land on consoles in 2020.

Simply put, it’s an action-adventure story that takes place in a dystopian, futuristic open-world.

With six distinct regions, players assume the role as a customizable mercenary and have the freedom to explore and write their own story within the open-world of Night City.

In some ways, Cyberpunk 2077 draws comparisons to the Grand Theft Auto series, but with a futuristic feel added to it.

Scheduled to be released on all major platforms, many predict that Cyberpunk 2077 will be one of the best games to come out in 2020.

Star Wars: Squadrons

Release Date: 2 October 2020

Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Star Wars fans are in for another treat before the end of 2020. Motive Studios and Electronic Arts will launch Star Wars: Squadrons on 2 October.

One of the more hyped games in the space flight simulation genre, Squadrons is focused around 5v5 first-person multiplayer gameplay.

Players will partake in space combat matches, giving them opportunities to unlock weapons, shields, and upgrades with experience.

In addition to its 5v5 gameplay, there will be options to play against bots in other game modes and stages.

All in all, Squadrons looks to be a unique gaming experience and another solid addition to the Star Wars gaming list.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Release Date: TBA in 2020

Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Macintosh operating systems

Yakuza: Like a Dragon, also known as Yakuza 7, is perhaps one of the more underrated games on this list.

Despite being launched in Japan earlier this year, the Western release of the game is set for the holiday season.

Long-time fans of the series are already familiar with what goes on in the world of Yakuza. But one new change may catch some off-guard.

This game shifts from its traditional action-based combat to a turn-based battle system for the first time, which will definitely add a new element to the experience, and a different feel to the overall gameplay.

As of now, there aren’t many games that fall into this niche. SEGA looks to be trying to use this game to gain some traction in the North American and European markets.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon might surprise some people if it is able to gather a following with fans outside of Asia early on.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Release Date: 17 November 2020

Platform(s): PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, Microsoft Windows

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be the 12th major instalment in the franchise’s series. We last saw a new Assassin’s Creed come out in 2018 with the great success that was Odyssey, with it getting nominated for plenty of awards in 2018-19.

Valhalla is a bit different from its predecessor as it’s set in 873 CE. Sometime after AC Origins and before the first Assassin’s Creed.

This time around, players take on the role of Evior, a Viking raider and will lead fellow Vikings against others in the Heptarchy.

Like previous games in the series, there will be the main story as well as several optional side missions to complete along the way.

Marvel’s Avengers

Release Date: 4 September 2020

Platform(s): PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Google Stadia, Microsoft Windows

Marvel’s Avengers is arguably one of the biggest action-adventure console games to hit the market later this year.

Based on Marvel Comics’ Avengers series, the game features an online co-op mode along with a narrative-driven campaign for solo-play.

Playable characters in the multiplayer mode include all of the biggest names such as Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow, to name a few.

Marvel’s Avengers will be available for Stadia, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Additionally, it will also be available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X when both consoles launch.

The superhero adventures officially begin on 4 September!

Watch Dogs: Legion

Ubisoft returns with a new addition to their Watch Dogs series. Watch Dogs: Legion is set to hit the shelves on 29 October 2020. This third instalment comes four years after Watch Dogs 2.

Once again, it should be another hacking-filled adventure but in a brand new open-world. This time, the game is set in a fictionally designed London.

Gamers will be given the option to control multiple characters over the course of the game. There will also be co-op multiplayer features that allow up to four players to complete missions.

Wasteland 3

Release Date: 28 August 2020

Platform(s): PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Linux, Microsoft Windows, Classic Mac OS

Wasteland 3 is another role-playing combat title that is garnering a lot of hype worldwide. It has been over four years since we saw inXile Entertainment introduce Wasteland 2 to the gaming world.

There are high hopes for this third instalment, and it’s considered a highly-anticipated game in the RPG category. The game’s main features include single, team, or squad mode with up to six players.

Another significant change to the game is the setting. Wasteland 2 was set in the locations of Los Angeles and Arizona. Wasteland 3’s storyline, on the other hand, takes place in the frozen lands of Colorado.

This change and other new elements added to the game should make Wasteland 3 one of the more popular titles on people’s wishlists in late 2020.

In Conclusion

Overall, there is no shortage of highly-anticipated games to come out before the end of 2020. It will be interesting to see which ones on this list live up to the hype and overdeliver.

One could say that 2020 looks set to end on a good note in the world of gaming, bringing gamers many wonderful hours of gameplay to enjoy.
