Long-range weapons are specifically designed to allow combat from great distances. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has two different types of these weapons, marksman and sniper rifles. Marksman’s rifles can be used for sniping, but snipers have a unique purpose that provides almost zero flexibility to do replicate a marksman rifle’s capabilities.
Sniper rifles are as close to guaranteed one-shot kills regardless of range while a marksman rifle’s damage decreases based on distance from the target. Both classes of weapons have their own strengths and weaknesses. If you like to find a good spot to pick off the enemy, a sniper rifle will be your best choice, but if mobility is important to you, then a marksman’s rifle will give you the best of both worlds. Find the weapon that matches your playstyle the closest.
Best long-range rifles in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
Below, you will find the best long-range weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. There will be a mix between marksman’s and sniper rifles to give you a range depending on your playstyle.
1. MCPR-300
Damage: 9 out of 10
Fire Rate: 3 out of 10
Range: 8 out of 10
Accuracy: 8 out of 10
Recoil Control: 7 out of 10
Mobility: 5 out of 10
Handling: 7 out of 10
The MCPR-3000 is a bolt-action precision sniper chambered for the powerful .300 magnum round. This rifle holds ten rounds in the clip, making it great for taking out multiple targets before reloading. It also holds 20 rounds in reserve which makes it less of a liability to hold in your loadout if you are concerned about running low on ammo. The recoil control is slightly above average with almost zero lateral and downward movement. It kicks the barrel upward so you just need to pull down after each shot. It has a low fire rate, but sniper and marksman’s rifles are not built for firing rate, but for dealing damage over distance. This weapon is unlocked automatically at Level 1.
2. SP-R 208
Damage: 8.5 out of 10
Fire Rate: 4 out of 10
Range: 7 out of 10
Accuracy: 8 out of 10
Recoil Control: 9 out of 10
Mobility: 6 out of 10
Handling: 7 out of 10
The SP-R 208 is a bolt-action rifle with exceptional recoil control. It doesn’t have the range of a sniper rifle, but you can still score one-shot kills from long distances to the body or head. The 208 has a near-perfect recoil score to make up for the inevitable delay with every bolt-action rifle. The rifle’s fire rate will suffer due to this, but the lack of recoil will keep your crosshairs on the enemy. The SP-R 208 is unlocked once you reach Level 7.
3. Lockwood MK2
Damage: 8.5 out of 10
Fire Rate: 5 out of 10
Range: 7 out of 10
Accuracy: 8 out of 10
Recoil Control: 8.5 out of 10
Mobility: 7.5 out of 10
Handling: 8.5 out of 10
The Lockwood MK2 is a lever-action rifle with superb recoil control and versatility, making it great for medium- and long-range combat. It has a higher fire rate than most sniper rifles and does not require a scope, which makes it safe to use in short-range situations while running around with the rifle. The MK2 has a six-round magazine and holds 12 bullets in reserve. This rifle scores very high in mobility and handling, giving you an advantage of movement that is not afforded by most guns with this type of power. The MK2 is unlocked at Level 28.
4. Signal 50
Damage: 9 out of 10
Fire Rate: 5 out of 10
Range: 8 out of 10
Accuracy: 9 out of 10
Recoil Control: 7.5 out of 10
Mobility: 5 out of 10
Handling: 7 out of 10
The Signal 50 gives you a great balance of power combined with excellent recoil control and rate of fire. This combination mitigates the risk of missed shots as you can take multiple accurate shots in a short time without much readjustment. It has a five-round magazine and holds ten rounds in reserve. The .50 caliber bullets decimate targets and will result in a one-shot Kill regardless of a head or body shot. This presents many opportunities to take out multiple enemies before your location is discovered by the other team. The Signal 50 is unlocked at Level 44.
5. LM-S
Damage: 8.5/10
Fire Rate: 6 out of 10
Range: 6.5 out of 10
Accuracy: 7 out of 10
Recoil Control: 8 out of 10
Mobility: 6 out of 10
Handling: 7.5 out of 10
The LM-S is a long-range semi-automatic rifle with excellent mobility. It has less range and accuracy than a typical sniper rifle, but its fire rate more than makes up for these slight weaknesses. The LM-S has a ten-round magazine and holds 20 bullets in reserve. The increased fire rate due to the rifle being semi-automatic allows for ten successive pulls of the trigger before reloading. It’s probably the closest to an assault rifle and sniper rifle having a baby. The LM-S is unlocked once you reach Weapon Level 17 with the Lachmann-762 battle rifle.
6. SA-B 50
Damage: 8.5 out of 10
Fire Rate: 4 out of 10
Range: 7 out of 10
Accuracy: 8.5 out of 10
Recoil Control: 7.5 out of 10
Mobility: 7.5 out of 10
Handling: 7.5 out of 10
The SA-B 50 is a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip. This rifle is built for speed and precision with elite level maneuverability and accuracy. The SA-B 50 magazine holds ten rounds with 20 rounds of reserve ammo. The versatility that this rifle has gives you an advantage in situations where you can snipe from multiple windows or even in medium-range combat. This weapon scores well above-average in all but Fire Rate, which is typical for a weapon in this class. You can unlock this rifle by reaching Level 13 on the SP-R 208.
In the end, the best weapon will always be the one you know how to use. Circumstances and enemy strategy are important factors when deciding what weapon to choose. Test all weapons for at least a match or two to sort out if you can find any use for them at all in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
