Is FIFA 23 Cross Platform? Complete Guide

A huge feature of multiplayer gaming in recent years is crossplay, which involves letting friends compete at their favourite games together across different platforms.

Hence, EA Sports officially confirmed the introduction of the long-awaited cross platform play as the dream of many FIFA fans is realized with FIFA 23 having crossplay right from the launch. However, you may be wondering what is FIFA cross platform?

There are multiple one-on-one game modes, such as Ultimate Team, which use the feature, and all platforms with crossplay share a single FIFA Ultimate Team Transfer Market.

FIFA 23 crossplay will allow players to compete with opponents on different platforms of the same generation in a variety of online game modes, while players on new-gen (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC) can play against each other and those on old-gen (PS4 and Xbox One) can matchmake together.

Although FIFA fans will be able to match against players on different platforms in FIFA Ultimate Team, Online Seasons, Online Friendlies, and more, you won’t be able to play co-op Division Rivals or Pro Clubs cross platform. However, EA Esports has announced it is working on bringing the feature to the mode at a later update.

FIFA 23 crossplay is available at the launch of the edition in FUT Division Rivals (except Co-Op), FUT Champions, FUT Ultimate Online Draft, FUT Online Friendlies (except Co-Op), FUT Play a Friend, Online Friendlies, Online Seasons (except Co-Op Seasons), and the Virtual Bundesliga competitive game mode. It can also be opted out of at any time.

Additionally, there is a new social widget called EA Social in FIFA 23 which will help bridge the gap between platforms for crossplay, and also give players ease of access when finding, adding, and playing with other players from their local networks and across platforms. To access it, follow the social icon in the bottom right corner of the FIFA 23 main menu (it’s also on additional screens throughout the game).

The FUT Transfer Market will also be expanded due to the addition of FUT crossplay to include cross platform functionality. The FUT Transfer Market will now be combined with pools of platforms which include PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia.

PC and Switch are the only exceptions as they will continue to have their own separate Transfer Market.

FIFA 23 crossplay will have a global leaderboard for the Elite Top 200, which can only be viewed by those who have crossplay enabled. They will be able to toggle between the global leaderboard and the same platform (local) leaderboard.
