Cyberpunk 2077: Best Perks Everyone Needs

Cyberpunk 2077 has a complex character system with many Perks to choose from, but these five stand out as must-haves for every player.

Cyberpunk 2077 comes with a complex character system that allows you to customize to your heart’s content. It can be difficult to decide which Perks are the most worthwhile, but these five stand out as ones that every player needs.

While these can be helpful for most playstyles, in the end, your Perk decisions will come down to the way you decide to play Cyberpunk 2077.

Here, you can find out everything that you need to know about getting and using perk points, as well as the best perks for upgrading your Cyberpunk 2077 character.

What are Perks in Cyberpunk 2077?

Once you start customizing your character in Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll be able to spend Perk Points on unique Perks that exist within each Attribute. These are separate from Attribute Points, which are earned at each level and upgrade that base Attribute total.

Each Attribute has two or three branching categories of Perks, and they’ll correspond to different kinds of benefits. You can hover over Perks you haven’t yet unlocked to see what they do, which can help to plan and save Perk Points for when you’ve got the prerequisite Ability total to unlock the desired choice.

How to get Perk Points in Cyberpunk 2077

The most consistent way you’ll earn Perk Points to unlock more Perks is just through leveling up as you play Cyberpunk 2077. Whether you’re doing story missions or side gigs, you’ll earn experience and gradually increase your level.

On top of that, the other big way to earn Perk Points is simply by doing the things they correspond to. As you work your way through the game, you’ll increase Skill Progression and earn Perk Points simply by doing things, whether it’s stealth, or quickhacking, or killing enemies with specific weapons.

Best Perks All Players Need in Cyberpunk 2077

As said before, the Perk choices you make will depend on how you prefer to play Cyberpunk 2077. Despite that, these five stand out from the pack as most desirable and versatile for multiple playstyles.

Pack Mule Perk, Athletics, Body

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game where you’re going to be picking up lots of gear. Every time you kill an enemy, there’s usually going to be items on their corpse and a weapon for you to pick up. Unfortunately, those all weigh you down.

Fortunately, there’s an easily accessible Perk that’ll make your life much easier. In the Athletics tree under Body, the top and central Perk is called Pack Mule. It instantly increases your carrying capacity by 60, which is well worth that one Perk Point. There is no Attribute Requirement, so anyone can get this Perk.

Regeneration Perk, Athletics, Body

Even if you focus on a Stealthy approach or even a non-lethal one, you’re going to end up in combat sometimes. It’s inevitable. Fortunately, there’s an early Perk under the Athletics tree via Body that will help you out. Regeneration will cause your Health to slowly regenerate during combat.

If you tend to be right in the thick of things during combat, it can help mitigate the damage you’re taking. If you’re in a pinch, you can also get out of the main combat area and find somewhere to take cover and hide while your health slowly regenerates. There is no Attribute Requirement, so anyone can get this Perk.

Scrapper Perk, Crafting, Technical Ability

Crafting is a way to play Cyberpunk 2077 that not every player is going to bother with. You’re able to use crafting components to upgrade weapons and items or even create them from scratch, but you can also just take what you find and look buy better stuff when you have the opportunity to. However, it’s worth investing in the Scrapper Perk under the Crafting tree for Technical Ability.

It is going to require you to have a Technical Ability of at least 5, but that’s also useful for opening doors, so it’s not a waste by any means. Scrapper will automatically disassemble any junk items you find into crafting components, which you can use or sell, but just picking up junk will slowly increase your Crafting skill and in turn earn you Perk Points.

Advanced Datamine Perk, Breach Protocol, Intelligence

If you don’t tend to bother with hacking much, it can be tempting to ignore Intelligence and the subsequent Perk trees underneath it. However, there are two Perks in the Breach Protocol tree that you’ll want to invest in. The first is Advanced Datamine, which is going to increase the amount of eurodollars acquired from Access Points.

Even if you don’t bother using Breach Protocol in combat, having the chance to connect and “Jack In” to access points and earn extra eurodollars (by completing the Code Matrix puzzle) is going to help anyone out. Advanced Datamine does have an Attribute Requirement, so you’ll need an Intelligence of at least 5, but that’ll also help grant you access to the next Perk here and useful cyberware.

Extended Network Interface Perk, Breach Protocol, Intelligence

With an Attribute Requirement meaning you’ll need at least an Intelligence of 7, it might not seem worth the investment to go after the Extended Network Interface Perk. Of course, that Intelligence is also going to help you access useful cyberware, and any playstyle can benefit from this bonus.

Extended Network Interface will automatically highlight nearby Access Points. That can include tech you can hack into and send haywire, but it can also mean basic Access Points that you can Datamine for extra eurodollars. Having those light up on your minimap as you pass by helps you notice them, and will earn you extra money constantly.
