The popular Dragon Ball Super series sees its next movie release in 2022 – although an official date has yet to be announced. To prepare fans for the upcoming movie, the official English language website for Dragon Ball revealed the first key visual for the movie.
Notable characters in Super Hero’s first key visual
As pictured in the link, familiar characters such as Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Piccolo appear, alongside a young Pan. Above them are Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 in their capes, in what the website describes as “striking a couple of slick poses!“
There are three other characters on the poster. Two are to the left and appear to be humans in shiny, dapper suits, possibly playing some kind of villain role. On the far right is a short, humanoid figure wearing some kind of hero uniform. With the movie’s title, it’s likely this character will play a critical role
Unfortunately, nothing is revealed about these characters beyond their appearance on the visual. The website states that there are some “all-new original characters who we’ll just have to wait to find out more about, no matter how tough that may be!“
They also teased more Super Hero information dropping during Jump Fest 2022. The online kickoff begins 18 December.
Dragon Ball continues its massive popularity after nearly four decades
Akira Toriyama’s series debuted as a manga in 1984 and ended its run in 1995. The manga was broken up into two series, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. The former ran from 1986-1989. The latter ran from 1989-1996, receiving a remaster as Dragon Ball Z Kai in 2009 (through 2011).
Dragon Ball GT, a non-canonical series, debuted in 1996 and ended in 1997.
Toriyama debuted Dragon Ball Super, the sequel to Dragon Ball, in 2015 with an anime adaptation from 2015-2018 (the manga is ongoing). Super Dragon Ball Heroes is the current iteration of the anime, based off of the trading card and arcade game of the same name.
Dragon Ball is ranked third in overall number of manga volumes sold, only behind Golgo 13 and One Piece. It has sold over 260 million copies worldwide as of July 2021.
