FIFA 20 Wonderkids: Best Argentinian Players to Sign in Career Mode

Argentina is a breeding ground for talent, so which South American wonderkids should you sign on FIFA 20?

When people think of South American football, two players always come to mind: Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi. People will debate for decades who was the better player, but with the Barcelona superstar still only 32-years-old, he has plenty of time to sway the argument further in his favour.

Along with those two all-time greats, Argentina has produced many other incredibly talented players, including Javier Zanetti, Diego Simeone, Oscar Ruggeri, Roberto Ayala, Hernan Crespo, Juan Sebastian Veron, Gabriel Heinze, Gabriel Batistuta, and Alfredo di Stefano.

Now we look to the next crop of the best Argentinian wonderkids to sign in FIFA 20 Career Mode. There’s a full slate of all of the best wonderkids from Argentina in FIFA 20 at the foot of the article: those with the highest potential overall ratings feature in the main body of the article.

Choosing FIFA 20 Career Mode’s best Argentinian wonderkids

The most important aspect considered when picking the best Argentinian wonderkids in FIFA 20 Career Mode is the potential overall rating.

Those that feature in the body of the article have the highest POT, with the others listed in the table at the foot of the article having a potential rating of at least 84. All players in the article are 22-years-old or younger at the start of FIFA 20 Career Mode.

Lautaro Martínez (OVR 82 – POT 90)

Team: Inter Milan
Best Position: LF, LS, CF, ST, RF, RS
Age: 21
Overall/Potential: 82 OVR / 90 POT
Value (Release Clause): £30.2 million (£57.3 million)
Skill Moves: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 88 Jumping, 86 Agility, 86 Aggression

Signed by Inter Milan from Racing Club for £22.5 million in the summer of 2018, the investment in Lautaro Martínez is already paying dividends in all competitions.

Now in his second season with the San Siro co-residents, Martínez is a trusted first-team striker, often lining up alongside Romelu Lukaku. By his 25th game of this season, the Argentinian wonderkid already had 15 goals and three assists.

In FIFA 20, Martínez is the best wonderkid from Argentina, boasting a decent overall rating of 82 from the start of Career Mode, developing into a mighty POT rating of 90.

Already a good all-around striker in the game, Martínez’s strengths are in his 86 agility, 81 acceleration, 81 speed, 84 strength, 88 jumping, 84 positioning, 81 composure, 83 finishing, and 82 heading accuracy.

Pedro de la Vega (OVR 70 – POT 88)

Team: Club Atlético Lanús
Best Position: LW, RW
Age: 18
Overall/Potential: 70 OVR / 88 POT
Value (Release Clause): £3.3 million (£7.1 million)
Skill Moves: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 87 Sprint Speed, 85 Acceleration, 85 Agility

Still an emerging talent for Lanús, Pedro de la Vega has been given 12 – mostly substitute – appearances in Argentina’s Superliga this season.

However, during this campaign, De La Vega has showcased his flair on the ball and has scored the first and second goals of his professional career.

Pedro de la Vega is one of the go-to wonderkids in FIFA 20. The young winger comes in as one of the hidden gems of the game, as well as the very best of the top lower league gems due to his 88 POT rating and cheap price tag.

Despite his relatively low overall rating at the start of career mode, the 18-year-old Argentinian wonderkid has plenty of user-friendly ratings already, including his 87 sprint speed, 85 acceleration, 85 agility, and 81 balance.

Exequiel Palacios (OVR 78 – POT 88)

Team: Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Best Position: LM, LAM, LCM, CAM, CM, RCM, RAM, RM
Age: 20
Overall/Potential: 78 OVR / 88 POT
Value (Release Clause): £15 million (£28.2 million)
Skill Moves: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 87 Stamina, 82 Composure, 81 Shot Power

By 1 January 2020, Exequiel Palacios had racked up 79 games, ten assists, and seven goals for Club Atlético River Plate in Argentina’s Superliga, but now he starts a new challenge in the Bundesliga.

Joining an incredibly talented squad of young players at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, a team which has turned out to be the surprise package of FIFA 20, the Argentinian wonderkid looks to be an exciting addition to the German outfit.

Exequiel Palacios’ overall rating of 78 puts the 20-year-old right on the cusp of being a valid first-team starter.

When he is on the pitch, FIFA 20 players will be able to utilise his decent ratings of 87 stamina, 81 shot power, 82 composure, 77 dribbling, 79 ball control, 78 long strike, and 75 long passing.

Thiago Almada (OVR 72 – POT 88)

Team: Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield
Best Position: LW, LAM, CAM, RAM, RW
Age: 18
Overall/Potential: 72 OVR / 88 POT
Value (Release Clause): £5.9 million (£12.4 million)
Skill Moves: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 90 Agility, 89 Balance, 87 Acceleration

Commonly used as a substitute for Vélez Sarsfield this season and much of last season, Thiago Almada enjoyed three consecutive starts from the end of November to early December, playing on the right-wing and in attacking midfield, rewarding his club with the opening goal in a 3-1 win over Club Atlético Colón.

Thiago Almada may have a lowly overall rating of 72 in Career Mode of FIFA 20, but his movement attribute ratings are already so high that he’s worth having in the matchday squad.

The 18-year-old Argentinian wonderkid already boasts 87 acceleration, 85 sprint speed, 90 agility, and 89 balance. Plus, his 76 dribbling, 73 ball control, and 71 finishing aren’t too shabby for a teen.

Nicolás Domínguez (OVR 76 – POT 88)

Best Position: LWB, LDM, LCM, CDM, CM, RDM, RCM, RWB

In the summer of 2019, Bologna of Serie A sealed the signing of Argentinian wonderkid Nicolás Domínguez, allowing the midfielder to go back out on loan to Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield until January.

Domínguez’s 13 games in the Superliga yielded five goals and an assist. After moving to Italy, the 21-year-old featured in two of the first four possible games, starting in defensive midfield against Hellas Verona.

At the start of your Career Mode, Nicolás Domínguez may still be at Vélez Sarsfield on loan. He is wonderfully versatile in FIFA 20, but his strengths are in defensive midfield and central midfield.

The Argentinian is very much a workhorse in the middle of the park, boasting high/high work rate, 93 stamina, 87 aggression, 86 jumping, 82 acceleration, and 81 slide tackling.
