For those unaware, Final Fantasy XIV Online will be getting a brand new expansion, titled ‘Endwalker,’ which is set to be released in the Fall of 2021.
With Shawdowbringers launched back in July 2019, it has been almost two years since the long-running MMORPG has come out with a new expansion.
Endalker will be the franchise’s fourth expansion or major DLC to come out for Final Fantasy XIV.
Endwalker to be the last expansion for Hydaelyn and Zodiark Story Arc
Recently, the Final Fantasy XIV community team at Square Enix launched their first-ever Online Announcement Showcase, as relayed by PlayStation.Blog, giving fans an exciting first look at Endwalker.
Producer and director Naoki Yoshida shared plenty of information during the showcase. Most notably, Yoshida mentions that Endwalker will feature the climax of the long-running Hydaelyn and Zodiark story.
Essentially, Endwalker will be the transition point where the franchise moves on from the decade-long story arc featuring Hydaelyn and Zodiark. At the same time, it will set the stage for a new era of the game in the FFXIV story.
So, now would be a great starting point for new players to get their feet wet in the wildly popular MMORPG, leading up to Endwalker’s release.
Endwalker features new areas, jobs, increased level cap, and more
Players can expect several new looks to the game, including new jobs and areas, an increased level cap, and modifications to the battle system.
In terms of new areas to explore, Endwalker will feature Thavnair, the imperial capital of Garlemald, along with the city of Radz-at-Han. Players can also expect a variety of new exciting faceoffs against Anima.
In addition to that, there will be an increased level cap from 80 to 90, along with Sage, which will appear as a new healer job.

- Journey to Thavnair, the imperial capital of Garlemald, and even the Moon!
- New Jobs: Sage and more
- Level cap increase from 80 to 90

- New threats, including Anima

- Secrets revealed in a new alliance raid series
- New small-scale PvP mode
- An additional “Trust” ally: Estinien Wyrmblood
- A New Residential District: Ishgard
- Updates to the Gold Saucer
- Relaxing fun in Island Sanctuary
- New gear and crafting recipes
- Expanded Horizons via the Data Center Travel System
Final Fantasy XIV will be available on PS5 with improvements
Final Fantasy XIV will be coming to the PlayStation 5 in April 2021, being available as an open beta with backwards compatibly.
As a bonus, players owning a registered license for the PlayStation 4 version are eligible to download the PS5 version without additional cost. Yoshida also confirmed that Endwalker will be releasing on PS5 this fall.
Developers expect the PS5 version to take advantage of next-gen technology, with it set to feature significantly improved frame rates, faster load times, 4K resolution support, and more!
Endwalker trailer drops hints for future updates
In case you missed it, the Endwalker teaser trailer premiered during the showcase. It features subtle hints, including a potential journey to the Moon.
Additionally, it foreshadows other exciting features and potential additions that we might expect to learn more about in the coming months of updates.
