If the PlayStation 4 is remembered for one thing, it’s the console’s almighty line of exclusive games. According to VGChartz, the PS4 has more than doubled the unit sales of its initial competitor, the Xbox One, with this greatly being down to its comprehensive line of must-play titles.
With Ghost of Tsushima to add to the list later this year, the PS4 boasts tremendous exclusive games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Death Stranding, Days Gone, the simply impeccable God of War, and, of course, Horizon Zero Dawn.
Now, Sony is loosening its grip on one of this generation’s best games, and one of its best-selling exclusive games, by allowing Horizon Zero Dawn to port to the PC.
Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer
In a PlayStation Blog interview – which was followed up by the above tweet from developers Guerrilla Games – former managing director of Guerrilla games and now the head of Worldwide Studios, Herman Hulst, shed some light on the Horizon Zero Dawn port rumours.
In the sit-down, the interviewer sprung the question about rumours of Horizon Zero Dawn coming to PC, to which Hulst simply answered: “Yes, I can confirm that Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer.”
While an exact date is yet to be confirmed, he followed on by saying that Guerrilla Games will be providing more information in the near future, with Michiel van der Leeuw, JB van Beek, and Angie Smets now standing as the studio directors.
As one of the PlayStation 4’s biggest games, it does seem a bit surprising that Sony, a company which isn’t known for sharing its big PS4 triple-A titles, would allow for a PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn. That said, they have been opening up to the idea more recently.
PC gamers to be treated to two big PS4 games this summer
Games that were initially announced as PlayStation 4 exclusives have gradually been given reign to test the waters on PC. It started with smaller branded games, like MLB: The Show and Predator: Hunting Grounds, which were significant steps, but not major moves.
In under a fortnight, though, PC gamers have learned that not only is Hideo Kojima’s aesthetically stunning Death Stranding coming to PC to fulfil its potential but now so is Horizon Zero Dawn.
It looks set to be a busy summer for PC-only gamers, too, with Death Stranding arriving on 2 June 2020, and Horizon Zero Dawn launching in that same summer window.
If they port well, which they’re expected to, both of these big-name PS4 exclusives should offer an even better gaming experience on the PC. These recent revelations also give a flicker of hope for future exclusives on the PlayStation 5 perhaps coming to the PC platform.
