On 25 June 2021, Mario Golf: Super Rush will arrive on the Nintendo Switch. Now, a little less than one month away from launch, Nintendo has unveiled lots of gameplay details about the upcoming sports crossover title.

In the new video, the character roster, presence of motion controls, use of strategic shots, and the novel game modes were all given the spotlight, only increasing the hype for the latest Mario Golf.

Mario Golf: Super Rush gameplay details unveiled

The first focus of the big new reveals was the depth of the golf strategy mechanics. It features the familiar easy-to-use controls to power-up the swing, as well as curve and spin shots to navigate the hazards of each course.

You’ll also be able to examine a course with the Scan feature, which offers key details like the distance to the hole, the lay of the area, and the elevation.

Furthermore, as was to be expected from a first-party Nintendo Mario game, motion controls will be an option for players to use. As shown in the video, when you swing with the Joy-Con, your character will swing in-game, too.

Along with the usual core characters of Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario, and Peach, the Mario Golf: Super Rush character roster will feature several others to choose from.

Here are all of the characters coming to the new Mario Golf game:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Wario
  • Waluigi
  • Peach
  • Daisy
  • Yoshi
  • Bowser
  • Bowser Jr
  • Boo
  • Donkey Kong
  • Rosalina
  • Pauline
  • Toad
  • Chargin’ Chuck
  • King Bob-omb

Your choice of character will vary your game on the course, with them each having different stats for Power, Stamina, Speed, Control, and Spin, as well as unique Special Shots and Dashes. You’ll also be able to use your Mii characters on the course.

Speed Golf to take the wait out of the sport

A newcomer to the Mario Golf series, the game mode Speed Golf completely cuts the waiting out of golf, with everyone teeing-off simultaneously and then giving chase to their ball in a race to putt-in first.

Stamina plays a key part in Speed Golf, as do the attack/boost moves known as ‘Special Dashes,’ which surge your character down the fairway.

Each character also comes with a unique Special Shot. When these are fired, they can turn the tide of the hole, pushing other balls aside or cutting a clear run to the green.

Along with the brand new Speed Golf mode, Mario Golf: Super Rush also introduces Battle Golf. Taking place in an arena filled with obstacles, Battle Golf is a more manic form of Speed Golf, focussing on a race to capture flags.

Grow your Mii in an RPG golf game mode

In Golf Adventure, you’ll play as your Mii, learning all of the key techniques of the game by completing mini-games. However, Golf Adventure isn’t just a training area, as you’ll be sent out on missions that test your golf skills, including battles against bosses.

Most importantly, though, through playing Golf Adventure, your Mii character will level-up. Each time you level-up, you’ll get points to enhance your skills as you see fit, meaning that you dictate the Spin, Power, Speed, Control, and Stamina of your character.

The time put into this game mode will pay dividends outside of Golf Adventure, too, with them becoming a usable character on the roster for versus play.

The Mario Golf: Super Rush launch isn’t far away, and it looks to be stacked with even more game modes and golf strategy than many may have expected.
