NBA 2K22: Best Teams for a (SG) Shooting Guard

Want to be the next star shooting guard in the league? Here are the NBA 2K22 franchises that should be on your shortlist.

Choosing the right team to join goes a long way in catapulting your MyPlayer’s career in NBA 2K22. It helps many areas, such as earning better brand deals, more virtual currency, and experience points, to level up faster in the game.

So here, we will take a look at which teams you should seek to join to maximize your potential with your shooting guard build.

Which teams are the best for an SG in NBA 2K22?

In general, it is usually not the best idea to join your favorite or the best NBA teams in the league – mainly because the situation may not be ideal for your player to develop.

Going against the grain may result in major setbacks to your player’s career, especially early on. In short, this may significantly slow down your progress in the game, leading to many hours of wasted time.

So, it’s usually best to pick a team that needs your skillset and is likely to give you enough playing time to succeed. As such, the following are the best teams for a new SG build to join in NBA 2K22.

1. Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the most exciting up-and-coming teams in the NBA today. Despite having superstar Luka Dončić as a franchise cornerstone, things haven’t really worked out yet.

It’s fair to say that Kristaps Porziņģis may not be the second star that they were hoping to get when they traded for him back in 2019.  As a result, the Mavericks are still trying to find another star to play alongside Dončić to help them compete in the Western Conference.

As a new SG entering the league, there aren’t many better situations to walk into than playing alongside Dončić. Not only is he an elite playmaker, but he also draws lots of defensive attention on a nightly basis, making your transition into the NBA a lot easier.

If one of the primary skills of your SG build is shooting, there aren’t many better high-quality point guards to share the floor with than Dončić. If all goes well, you and the Slovenian can turn out to be one of the best backcourts in the NBA for years to come.

2. Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets are in the midst of a major rebuild without a top-tier shooting guard on their roster. Terry Rozier is a good player at that position, but not many consider him as elite.

With that said, there is a good chance for you to come in and win the starting job over Rozier in your first season. Better yet, at 27-years-old, the Hornets might be willing to move on from Rozier if you can show them that you are capable of taking over as the team’s starting SG.

It also doesn’t hurt that you can grow alongside LaMelo Ball, who many consider to be a legitimate franchise point guard for the Hornets. While there will be a few more seasons of growing pains in Charlotte, it might be worth considering as there is a chance for you to get quality playing time to develop.

Compared to most rebuilding franchises, the Charlotte Hornets are one of those teams with a spot vacant at the SG position. If things pan out, you and Ball could end up as a dominant duo in the Eastern conference very quickly.

3. San Antonio Spurs

After decades of being one of the most consistent teams in the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs currently find themselves looking for their next superstars.

The Spurs only have money committed to two players in their backcourt (Dejounte Murray and Derrick White) for the next three years. So, they have plenty of cap space and wiggle room to commit to the next player with star potential.

On the whole, both Murray and White aren’t considered players with A-calibre potential, given that they are projected as average scorers at best. So, if you can come in and show your worth early, it might mean that both Murray and White become expendable in short order

The Spurs stand as one of the best situations for your SG to join, especially if you are looking for an opportunity to develop into a high-scoring guard and a franchise cornerstone.

4. Houston Rockets

After trading away both James Harden and Russell Westbrook last year, it is pretty clear that the Rockets have decided to use the next few years to revamp the roster.

Unlike other teams on this list, the Rockets might be the only one without a long-term franchise piece at any position to start the season in 2K22. As such, your chances of winning a starting job out of camp are as good as they can get.

Right now, your only competition at the SG position is Kevin Porter Jr. and a 33-year-old Eric Gordon. So, it’s fair to say that you might be the Rockets’ best shooting guard from day one.

Earn your stripes early, and you might have the keys to the Rockets’ offense very early in your career. In a sense, you might be able to call the shots, influence trades, and put together a new big three in the next few seasons.

Just keep in mind that the road to stardom in Houston might not be as easy as other teams on this list, as your player will likely have to go through some major growing pains through the early stages.

5. Boston Celtics

If you want to be a part of a big three and be competitive right away, the Boston Celtics might be your best choice. They are a team built around two versatile young wings with plenty of upside: Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

In fact, the Celtics might just be one guard away from being a major player in the East.

They moved out Kemba Walker’s contract this summer and brought in Josh Richardson as reinforcement for the backcourt. However, many consider Richardson as a second-unit player at this point in his career.

Therefore, if the Celtics decide to move Marcus Smart to point guard this year, you will have a good shot to secure your place as the team’s starting SG in 2K22.

Playing alongside emerging young stars in Brown and Tatum should only help your game grow. In the best-case scenario, you could turn out to be the next Ray Allen in Boston – the third piece that helped the Celtics become championship contenders during the Paul Pierce era.

6. New York Knicks

Ask any New York Knicks fan, and they will tell you that it’s been too long since they had a prospect with superstar potential. Although the Knicks have had their fair share of high picks the past several years, none of them have panned out into anything spectacular yet.

In fact, the best player on the Knicks team is Julius Randle, who needed almost five years, and is now with his third NBA team to try to establish himself as a legitimate 25-minute player in the league. Needless to say, Randle can only do so much, and if the Knicks wants to go anywhere, upgrading their backcourt should be a priority.

As of now, it seems like the Knicks are using veterans Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier as stop-gap players at the guard positions until they can find their next star. This sets up the perfect situation for your SG to come in and try to fill that need.

You can be the franchise-altering piece that shines in the big apple and help to bring the Knicks franchise back to its glory days.

7. Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers might be another obvious choice for a shooting guard looking for an opportunity to make an impact right away. Considered a contender in the Eastern Conference for the past several years, the Sixers have come up short on several occasions.

Going forward, we all know that Joel Embiid will continue to be a dominant force down low – as long as he is able to stay healthy. With Ben Simmons possibly traded soon, the Sixers will need another star to play alongside Embiid.

Ideally, it would be a guard who can run the floor, provide instant offense, and score from beyond the arc. If you feel like you are up to the challenge with your SG build, then Philly might be a good fit for you.

You should still keep in mind that it won’t be a walk in the park: Philadelphia has some of the toughest fans in the league. The pressure and animosity during rough times may not be for everybody.

How to be a shooting guard in NBA 2K22

Besides the point guard position, the shooting guard is one of the most popular positions for new players to build on 2K22. One key advantage of playing the two is that you get the best of both worlds.

Most shooting guards have the ability to either run plays or be one of the team’s main scoring options early on. As such, you shouldn’t have a problem getting your fair share of shots and usage early on in your career.

As scoring is a valuable asset in the game, you will likely earn fans, sponsors, and VC a lot faster, provided that you are able to maintain a high teammate grade and be your team’s best scorer as early as possible.

Keep in mind that shooting guard is also a very competitive position. So, becoming an NBA All-Star in your first season will likely take a lot of hard work and consistency.

Generally speaking, scoring and the ability to create offense should be your player’s main skillset. As history has shown, shooting guards that are able to carry their team offensively (Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade) usually turn out to be the most respected and marketable in the league.
