Atsushi Namikiri, author of the basketball manga “Switch,” will debut a new mixed martial arts (MMA) manga titled “Red Blue.” While an official date of release has yet to be announced, it will debut in 2022.
“Red Blue” a departure from “Switch”
“Red Blue” isn’t just different from “Switch” in terms of being different sports and a team sport vs. an individual sport, but also in its nature. WebSunday.net reports this will be the “darkest” sports manga in history. “Darkest” can mean many things: themes, illustrations, language, and more.
“Switch” also has a brotherly rivalry at the center of its story. While not much has been revealed on the plot of “Red Blue,” it will probably be similar to series like “Hajime no Ippo” where rivalries are formed throughout the story.
“Switch” left a lasting mark
“Switch” was serialized in Shonen Sunday from April 2018 through May 2021, when Namakiri ended its run after 15 volumes and 150 chapters. The series’ focus on the two brothers, Riku and Raimu, provided another aspect of story development for readers beyond the basketball aspects, much like Daiya no Ace focuses on the relationships between Sawamura, Furuya, and others.
If you’re a fan of Namakiri’s work or MMA, then be on the lookout for “Red Blue” in 2022!
