Featuring as the second game shown during the Nacon Connect presentation on 6 July, Daedalic Entertainment producer Harald Riegler gave fans a quick look at the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Gollum game.

The video showed a few more gameplay clips, explained the setting and storyline of the Gollum game further, and showcased three iconic characters coming to the game: Gandalf, Thranduil, and the Mouth of Sauron.

Here’s what was shown for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum in this latest update.

Three new characters faithful to the books introduced

Prior to Nacon Connect 2021, a general idea of the story and its events were detailed, with a core part being an interrogation by Gandalf, questioning Gollum to enable a retelling of his journey.

As such, it won’t come as a surprise that the famous wizard will be featured in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum game. Still, this is the first time that the Daedalic team has revealed what Gandalf the Grey will look like, as shown below.

In the telling of Gollum’s tale, he’s captured by Aragorn when making his way through Mirkwood, having escaped Barad-dûr. So, this may be where Gollum recounts his escape to Gandalf.

Importantly, as has been explained before, the game seeks to be true to the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. So, fans of the movies can expect to see a very different iteration of the infamous Mouth of Sauron.

For Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, the creators decided to cover the face of Sauron’s lieutenant and amplify their mouth for the cinematic spectacle.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be highly faithful to the books and so will show the face of the Mouth of Sauron for the first time, with the image below being what the team displayed during Nacon Connect.

Much of the footage and many of the screenshots shown to date for the Gollum game depict Barad-dûr, just as the official teaser release did. So, it’d make sense that the protagonist would encounter the Mouth of Sauron here.

Finally, the presentation showed off the lavish creation of Thranduil, the King of the Elves of Mirkwood and the father of Legolas.

As the tortured character’s path takes him from Barad-dûr to Mirkwood and eventually to the Mines of Moria, he doesn’t go unnoticed while passing by the Woodland Realm and ends up staying with the elves for a time.

Thranduil takes on a much more nature-centric and lavish appearance in the Gollum game, donning a huge branching crown, as shown below.

For fans of the Middle-earth setting, these three characters being showcased were the highlights of the relatively brief look at the upcoming game, but there were a few other aspects shown at, too.

Gameplay of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum to feature parkour elements

To tell the fascinating journey of Gollum through his own eyes, Daedalic have infused elements of decision-making, stealth, and even parkour gameplay into the upcoming title.

Riegler stated that “Gollum will creep, sneak, and trick his way past faithful, detailed environments,” going on to explain the game as a “cinematic stealth-action adventure.”

The new gameplay clips in the video above show Gollum sneaking on the ground, leaping across platforms, climbing up walls, and shimmying across ledges.

Along with some sneaky looks at the gameplay and confirmations of three iconic characters, the presentation finished by showing Fall 2022 as the release date of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
