Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales – Award-Winning Gem Arrives on Switch

If the world of The Switcher enthralled you, you’d love Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

It may have
been released in October 2018 for PC gamers and December 2018 for consoles, but
the arrival of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales on the Nintendo Switch has been
met with some well-deserved fanfare.

CD Projekt
Red is certainly winning over Switch gamers. First, they seemingly did the
impossible to bring The Witcher III: Wild Hunt – otherwise dubbed The Switcher – to the hybrid console.
Now, they’ve brought over a gem of a game in Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

What is Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales?

Thronebreaker:
The Witcher Tales is an RPG prequel of The Witcher game series, still taking
place on the Continent but with Queen Meve as the main character. The gameplay
consists of exploring five large regions in an isometric view, decision-making,
and battles which take place in the form of customisable card deck battles.

The game,
which costs £16.99 ($19.99), was originally made as a story mode within Gwent:
The Witcher Card Game. However, the Gwent spin-off proved to be enough in its
own right, as could the campaign mode. So, CD Projekt Red fleshed out the
spin-off of a spin-off to create about 30-hours of story and gameplay.

Fans of The Witcher should consider the prequel game Thronebreaker

In
Thronebreaker, you play as Queen Meve, ruler of Lyria and Rivia, who sets out
to unite the northern kingdoms by making alliances and, when necessary, through
battle. During the game, you’ll be asked to make choices and deal with the
consequences, with battles taking the form of a card game.

The turn-based
card game is representative of Queen Meve’s army which you control to defeat
opposing forces. Being a very intuitive game with customisable deck building,
it makes for compelling gaming that blends in well with the overarching
campaign.

When
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales was originally released, it was well-received by
critics and fans. It manages to expand the world of The Witcher game series
through its incredible storytelling while also offering a compelling and
strategy-oriented card game.

It features
a very different experience to playing The Witcher III on the Switch, but Thronebreaker:
The Witcher Tales is the kind of game that’s already perfectly suited to the
console. If you embrace the deck building a card duelling elements, the game
will greatly enrich your knowledge of the universe and further immerse you in
the world adapted from the novels of Andrzej Sapkowski.

Available
now on the Nintendo Switch, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a true gem and
superbly expands CD Projekt Red’s almighty game universe – even without Geralt
of Rivia as the protagonist.
