What’s next for the Paper Mario partners?

The feedback survey might be crucial for the future

Recently, Nintendo has sent a survey via email concerning Paper Mario : The Thousand Year-Door on the Switch.

Lots of new contents are included like the introduction of two secret bosses, the option to skip cutscenes, the addition of shortcuts in response to the criticisms about backtracking, unique soundtracks for certain events, art galleries which were present in both Color Splash and The Origami King. etc.

One of the main questions asked in the survey is the kind of characters players like in general.

They have a choice to choose if they like characters that resemble known characters but have a unique appearance, personality or if they prefer characters that are completely new to the Mario series, though it’s possible to pick both options.

In the remake of Paper Mario : The Thousand Year-Door, the characters are even more expressive than ever compared to the original version on the GameCube.

On top of giving every other partner their own themes, each one of them will give the players a hint by pressing the button ZL depending on the situation.

One may wonder if such details will apply in the next entry for the Nintendo Switch’s successor, hopefully this will be the case, the developers have certainly put a lot of effort into it.

    The future of explosive buddies

    The future of explosive buddies

Since the first game on the Nintendo 64, there has been one party member with explosive moves.

In terms of design, the new one can be based on the Baboom, a variant of Bob-omb who debuted in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The ability of shooting fireworks from each body segment sounds like a pretty fun concept for a Paper Mario partner.

Now will it follow Mario until the very end like Bombette, Admiral Bobbery, Boomer, or will it end up making a sacrifice like Bobby? Only time will tell.

It is finally time for a Chain Chomp to join the adventure as a party member?

Paper Mario and Mario Kart 3DS Exclusive Footage (E3 2010)

During E3 2010, a Chain Chomp was at some point planned as Mario’s partner, however this idea ended up being scrapped in the final version of Paper Mario : Sticker Star.

An exclusive footage from 2010 by Nintendo World Report shows the overworld ability of the Chain Chomp, interestingly it is able to break long rows of Brick Brocks.

Currently no Chain Chomp has accompanied Mario on his journey for real, so it would be a good opportunity to bring this concept again.

The announcement of Mario & Luigi : Brothership has made people very excited for the new original characters like Connie, Snoutlet and to an extent the villains.

Who knows where Mario’s adventure will take place in the next Paper Mario game, and what kind of role Princess Peach and Bowser will play too.

If the creative restrictions are really coming to an end, then there might be a possibility to see more partners with unique designs like Vivian and Madame Flurrie.

Ultimately, whenever they’re supportive the whole time or were originally part of the antagonist group, it’s fun to imagine the role of Mario’s future allies.

The Paper Mario partners hold a special place in the hearts of many for their dialogue and especially the backstories.

It was awesome seeing pictures of all of the previous buddies on the Mario Bros’ house in Super Paper Mario, and thankfully this detail is referenced in the remake of Paper Mario : The Thousand-Year Door.

Also, the Partner Ring feature is a welcome addition considering it allows players to quickly switch party members in the overworld by pressing the button L.

The quality of life improvement was definitely necessary, and it would be great to see this feature again in the future.
