Reddit user u/RoboPup dropped a mind-blowing stat: as of today, January 7, 2025, we’ve been waiting for The Elder Scrolls VI (ESVI) as long as the time between Skyrim‘s release and ESVI’s 2018 teaser. That’s 2,403 days—or about six and a half years each way.
A Long Silence
Bethesda’s teaser for ESVI came during E3 2018, mainly to reassure fans they weren’t abandoning single-player games amidst the Fallout 76 backlash. Todd Howard even admitted the teaser was premature, with Starfield still in the pipeline. Now, years later, there’s still no release date in sight.
Fans on Reddit have been vocal about the prolonged silence. Polarpies joked we’re overdue for a “Jesus Christ, it’s coming” trailer, while others noted this delay was expected given Bethesda’s development timeline. Compared to Fallout 4’s announce-and-release in six months, the wait for ESVI feels eternal.
What’s Next?
Some fans fear the game is still years away—possibly pushing into the 2030s. Others worry Elder Scrolls might never fully return to its single-player roots after Bethesda’s focus on Elder Scrolls Online.
But for now, Skyrim—and its endless re-releases—remains the king of Tamriel. At least until ESVI decides to dethrone it.
