Fan Art Imagines Different Forms of Voltorb Based on Poke Ball Types

The original 151 Pokemon from Pokemon Red and Blue continue to inspire fans with their unique designs. One fan, in particular, has taken to TikTok to share their creative vision of Voltorb. The Electric-type Pokemon has long been associated with Poke Balls, and one fan decided to explore what Voltorb might look like if it took on the appearance of different types of Poke Balls. Their series of videos feature Voltorb transformed into Lure Balls, Clone Balls, Dark Balls, and more. With The Pokemon Company known for revisiting old Pokemon in new games, it’s possible that Voltorb and Electrode could one day get a redesign inspired by Mercuryballxfusions’ fan art.

TikTok user Mercuryballxfusions has created a series of fan art imagining different types of Poke Balls as Voltorb. While the beginning of part one of their series may be similar to what other Pokemon fans have imagined in taking the Gen 1 color schemes and applying them to the Electric-type Pokemon effectively, Mercuryballxfusions really expands their creativity with the Lure Ball which was introduced to the series with Pokemon Gold and Silver. Other Poke Balls that Mercuryballxfusions has used as templates for their different Voltorbs include the Clone Ball, Dark Ball, Dive Ball, GS Ball, Heavy Ball, Fast Ball, and more.

Given their affinity for the Gen 1 Electric-type Pokemon and ability to draw it in many unique ways, Mercuryballxfusions seems to be a fan of Voltorb and Electrode. Going even further than creating updated Poke Ball looks for Voltorb and Electrode, Mercuryballxfusions has also done Hisuian versions of the same concept with the Old Great Ball, Heavy Ball and Feather Ball, Hisuian Jet Ball, and Origin Ball.

As The Pokemon Company is known to revisit old Pokemon in its latest games like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it may be possible that a future title has Voltorb and Electrode that resemble one of Mercuryballxfusions’ creations. Because of the varying aesthetics provided by the multitude of Poke Balls that Mercuryballxfusions’ Pokemon fan art is inspired by, Voltorb and Electrode’s typing are adjusted to match similar to how some Pokemon Sword and Shield regional forms worked.

Though Shiny Voltorb alters the Pokemon’s look notably by swapping the red to blue, it pales in comparison to Mercuryballxfusions’s Great Ball version of the Pokemon.
