This week, Nintendo dropped a fresh trailer for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, teasing upgraded features and a sneak peek at what fans can expect from the revamped platformer classic. Set to launch on the Nintendo Switch on January 16, 2025, the game promises enhanced visuals and exciting new modes.
A Swing Down Memory Lane
Originally released for the Nintendo Wii in 2010, Donkey Kong Country Returns was a smash hit with both critics and players, racking up over six million copies sold. A slightly tweaked version, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, swung onto the 3DS in 2013, bringing exclusive levels to the jungle party.
This HD upgrade combines the best of both worlds, incorporating the extra stages from the 3DS version and packing a total of 80 levels across nine lush worlds.
What’s New in the Banana Bunch?
The trailer not only gives us a nostalgic look at Donkey Kong’s vibrant world but also highlights the fresh features in this re-release. Chief among them is the Modern Mode, designed to make the game more accessible by increasing the number of hearts and helpful items.

Local Co-Op and Remastered Levels Galore
