A breakthrough in gaming as Google and Taito revolutionize the classic Space Invaders, offering players an Augmented Reality experience.

Google and Taito collaborated to launch an augmented-reality version of Space Invaders. Now, players can engage with the iconic invaders in their real-world surroundings, offering a new level of immersion and interaction.

A Leap into the real world

For those who grew up playing Space Invaders, this is a dream come true. The game now leaps from the screen into the player’s physical environment, thanks to Augmented Reality technology.

By utilizing live video feed from a mobile device’s camera, this AR version of Space Invaders will make the invaders seem as if they are part of the player’s real surroundings, flying behind structures, appearing over rooftops, and emerging from warp holes on the side of buildings.

Engaging players in a new dimension

This Augmented Reality version of Space Invaders promises a more interactive and immersive gaming experience. Much like in Pokémon Go, players are encouraged to explore their surroundings to discover new invaders, accumulate points by defeating them, and compete for the top spot on local leaderboards.

Furthermore, players can share their achievements on social media with an AR selfie, visually placing them in the virtual spaceship they pilot in the game.

Broad availability and compatibility

The Space Invaders AR game is now available for download on both Android and iOS devices. Compatibility isn’t an issue as it supports ARCore-supported devices running Android 11.0+ or iOS 16.0+. According to Google’s ARCore documentation, a broad range of smartphones and tablets, including models released a few years ago, can enjoy this game.

With the release of this AR version of Space Invaders, Google and Taito are not only reviving a classic game but are also providing a glimpse into the future of gaming. This technological leap could potentially change the gaming industry’s landscape and how players interact with games.

Now, the alien invaders are not just on our screens, but in our parks, our streets, and our living rooms – blurring the lines between our reality and the world of Space Invaders.

  1. Hi there, Owen! Appreciated how you uniquely and clearly transmitted knowledge. As an undergrad biochem major, reminded me fondly gutting Harrison’s IM back in the day. 😅 Isn’t series resistance an influencing factor as well? You also reminded me heaps of galaxies colliding – endless possibilities there perhaps? Be phenomenal to better comprehend gravity’s villains undermining resistance-huh! My woodworking swing-bench partially collapsed once-due to bolt disregard. Thanks loads -changed assessing bolts. Ever seen world-class abyss blue on titanium bolts? Worthy tangent for later maybe! Hughes🤠
