Battlenet
If you do not currently have the Battlenet launcher installed on your computer, the first step is to download the app. Once the launcher has been downloaded, you will need to either create a new Blizzard account or sign in to an existing one. Once logged in, you can access the “All games” section and locate Modern Warfare 2. Alternatively, you can navigate to the “Activision” section and locate Modern Warfare 2 among the other Call of Duty titles listed. This price increase was implemented on the console versions of the game as part of a cross-gen bundle, which allows players to access the game on both current and next-generation consoles. However, no such generational differences exist on PC, making the price increase for the Standard edition on this platform unjustified.
Upon selecting the desired edition, you will be directed to a page titled “Upgrade your experience,” where you must select the same option as previously chosen, either Vault or Standard edition. This will initiate the process of purchasing Modern Warfare 2
Upon completing the checkout process, you will be returned to the online shop. From there, please navigate to the “Game” section located adjacent to the “Shop” section in the top right corner of the screen. You may notice that while Modern Warfare 2 is listed, a new “Install” button will have replaced the previous “Buy Now” button. Simply click on “Install” to proceed through the necessary steps and initiate the download process.

Steam
If you do not already have Steam installed on your device, you will need to download it first. Once you have Steam installed, you will need to either create a new account or log in to an existing account. Once you are logged in, you can access the store by clicking on the “Store” tab located in the top right corner of the home screen. From there, you can either search for Modern Warfare 2 specifically or locate it within the “Action” category where you will find featured games.
On Steam, there are three options available for the game: the Vault edition, the Standard edition, and the option to upgrade from the Standard edition to the Vault edition at any time for the difference in price between the two.
To purchase the desired edition, you must add it to your shopping cart and complete the checkout process. Upon successful purchase, the game will be available in your download folder. If it is not found there, you may access and download it from your library.
