Call of Duty Modern Warfare II: Best Machine Guns

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II did not hold back on the amount of options in the machine gun weapon category. Machine guns are fully automatic rifles designed for sustained direct fire. Modern Warfare II has two different classes of machine gun: submachine and light machine gun. They both have their own pros and cons, but can be effective primary weapons on the majority of the maps.

Submachine guns are best in close- and medium-range combat due extremely high fire rates, and its light weight makes it the best weapon type for mobility. The only reason to avoid SMGs is if the map is dominated by open areas and forces you into long range combat where you will be at a disadvantage. On the other hand, lightweight machine guns (or LMGs) are great for long-range combat. The two main disadvantages of a LMG are reload time and mobility due to the size of the guns and the amount of ammunition their magazines typically hold.

    Handling: 8.5 out of 10

The Fennec 45 is the fastest firing small machine gun in the game with an astounding 9 Damage rating. Like most SMGs, it scores low in range, but you can just pair it with a bolt-action battle rifle to balance your loadout. This weapon is unlocked at Level 38.

Although playstyle is very important when choosing a weapon, you also need to ensure you have the best weapon for the circumstances. It’s not wise to use a submachine gun on maps that favor long-range combat and the same goes for lugging around a light machine gun in smaller maps that favor mobility. Be sure to weigh playing style and the battlefield when selecting from these weapon types in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
