So, you’ve been playing FIFA 23 and are thinking that your skills are pretty awesome. But the latest title update from EA Sports has essentially ‘nerfed’ one particular feature that players have been enjoying.
This change results in FIFA Ultimate Team favoring quick wingers and strikers, much as it had in past FIFA iterations. The players with the fastest pace could cover the most ground while their slower counterparts were less effective despite all their successes in reality. The most current patch now curbs the stronger but less quick players to rush through defenses with their extremely short sprint pacing.
Taller players are no longer working as effectively and are getting dumped onto the transfer market to gain more pace-oriented players. What’s oddest is that this new patch fails to include changes to the accceleRATE system despite the lengthy list of other alterations.
How Drastic Was the Nerfing?
Nerfing essentially means that a game developer has reduced the power of something – whether it be a character, skill, item, etc. – in a version of a game. And EA Sports went hard on this November nerfing.
Literally everyone is now worse at the game because of this patch. The trivela shot (which is when your player kicks the ball with the outside of their foot) – was apparently just too effective. Those trivela shots are about 30% less accurate for all players save for those that have the ‘Outside-the-Foot Shot Trait’ – they only get a 10% decrease. If your player doesn’t have the trait, the shot won’t likely go in.
Some Patch Notes
Aside from the changes mentioned above, there are some other things worth mentioning about this patch. These notes include:
- Semi Assisted Through Passes (SATPs) get improved target selection logic.
- SATPs are less likely to be underpowered and less likely to go to the defender’s feet.
- Requesting a knock on results in decreased input sensitivity.
- Ball Roll Skill Move is more consistent in first time situations.
Issues That Were Addressed
Some existing issues were addressed by this patch. One of the fixes it issued dealt with how a player could run right over the ball when attempting to dribble and shield at a high speed. It also corrected the animations for goalkeepers when attempting to dive at a ball carrier’s feet. And those are just a couple of the issues that the patch addresses.
This new FIFA 23 patch resolves a lot of prior issues. However, it significantly changes the trivela shot advantage players used to enjoy. Does it mean the game is less enjoyable? No. But it is definitely a game-changer from EA Sports.
