Football Manager 2022 is loaded with stats, data, and values that span the vast world of the sport. The core of the gameplay experience is the database, but you don’t have to be content with the values provided.
Through the use of the game’s accompanying editor tools, both the pre-game FM Editor and In-Game Editor, you can customise the database to your liking.
So, here’s everything that you need to know to use the FM22 editor.
What is the FM22 Editor tool?
The FM Editor tool is a free app that comes with Football Manager 2022; it allows you to search all of the databases of the game as well as edit values and then save the changes as a database to be used for a new game.
Many FM22 players will use this to alter the current ability, potential ability, and attribute ratings of players, as well as give their chosen club more money.
What is the Pre-Game editor tool for FM22?
The pre-game editor for FM22 is a free FM Editor application that’s accessed via your Steam library. This editor tool allows you to alter the values in the database of Football Manager 2022 outside of the game itself, save them, and then use your edited databases for a new game.
What is the In-Game Editor tool for FM22?
The in-game editor is a paid application available from the Steam or Epic Store, that can be accessed within your save, enabling you to edit aspects like player attributes, club finances, and see hidden ratings. It is different to the pre-game tool. You can make the In-Game Editor for Football Manager available within your save by changing the Advanced Options for your game set-up from ‘Prevent use of the In-Game Editor’ by unticking the box.
How to you download and install the free editor tool in FM22
The free pre-game editor tool in FM comes as a separate app that you install and open from the Steam launcher. To get FM Editor 2022, you need to purchase Football Manager 2022 (via a key from elsewhere or directly on Steam) and then install it from Steam. You’ll then find the FM Editor 2022 app in your Library, or via the search bar.
Once you’ve purchased Football Manager 2022, you’ll gain access to the FM Editor. To find the FM22 Editor, you need to:
- Open the Steam launcher;
- Click on “All” in the top-left of the window and ensure you have “Tools” checked;
- Click on the search bar in the top-left of the window;
- Search ‘Editor’ and press enter;
- Click on the result that reads ‘Football Manager 2022 Editor.’

How to use the FM22 Editor
To use the FM22 Editor, you need to open the program from the Library section of your Steam launcher and install it if you haven’t done so already.
After selecting the Update Database to use (via the first prompt to show in the program), you’ll see two boxes of options down the left side under the Menu and Database headings.
Under Menu, you need to select Database. With that picked, you can then see all of the different databases of FM22 that you can edit under the Database heading.
To edit aspects about a team in FM22, such as finances, debts, colour scheme, board, or kits, select the Clubs option under the Database header. To edit the values of specific players, coaches, or any other human characters in the game, select People from under the Database header.
Once a database has been selected, you can search for who or what you wish to edit by adding filters on the right side of the window. To do this, select Add Condition and add a condition for your filtered search from the dropdown. If you want to find a specific person or team, select Name from the Add Condition options.
These conditions range all of the aspects that apply to the entries of your chosen database. You can search for potential ratings, age groups, nationalities, specific attribute ratings, reputations, and much more.
You can also add more than one condition to your filter to home-in on what you want to find. When you add more than one condition, you can alter the And/Or as the condition’s first option. This can either tighten your search by including And, or open it up to more options, such as more nationalities, with Or.
After putting in each line, you’ll need to adjust the condition’s input in the text bar on the right side. This might mean typing out a name or inputting a number value. Once you’ve added in all of the conditions that you want to use as your filter, press Apply Filter. The results will show underneath: each one is clickable for editing.
After double-clicking on one of the results, you’ll be able to navigate all of their data point pages via the bottom-left box. Here, you can select the different aspects to show on the right side, and then edit the entries by clicking on them and typing in new values or names.
To return to the filtered results, click Database under the Menu header to the top-left and continue to edit your Football Manager database.

Hello, I cannot change the database with one that I’ve made in the editor. Why?
I cannot press on drop down button when making a new career.
I have the same problem bro, did you find a solution?
