The Game Awards 2023 have nominated five games for the Best score and music award. One song from Baldur’s Gate 3 is standing out from the rest. Could it clinch the prize?
1. Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 offers a soundtrack with depth, featuring melodies and vocals that could easily double as film scores. The most liked songs on YouTube, in order, are Dark Ocean Summoning by Old Gods of Asgard, Wide Awake by Jaimes, and Anger’s Remorse, also by Old Gods of Asgard. This mix of somber music, heavy metal sounds, hymns, and ballads creates a hauntingly beautiful soundscape.
2. Baldur’s Gate 3
Two songs from Baldur’s Gate are a cut above the rest: “Raphael’s Final Act” (original by Skar) leads the pack on YouTube, followed by “Down By The River” composed by Borislav Slavov and sung by Maria Pizzuto and Andrew Wincott.
The third spot is taken by “The Power”, also by Borislav Slavov with lead vocals by Ilona Ivanova. These tracks offer an epic experience with deep vocals and a spine-tingling impact. The orchestra, which produced the soundtrack for Baldur’s Gate 3, has already given several concerts that have delighted audiences.
3. Final Fantasy XVI
The most liked tracks from the Final Fantasy XVI soundtrack are “Ifrit VS Phoenix” and the “Battle Theme”, both by Masayoshi Soken.
4. Hi-Fi Rush
Hi-Fi Rush features a soundtrack that’s been well-received for its indie music flair and heavy guitar presence. The most liked songs are “Too Big to Fail”, “Captive Normals”, and “The Beacon”.
5. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, traditional Asian sounds are blended with modern tones. The most liked song is the “Main Theme”, followed by “Shrine Battle” and “Ganonsdorf’s Theme”. These tracks were penned by Manaka Kataoka, Maasa Miyoshi, Masato Ohashi, and Tsukasa Usui, and brought to life by Hajime Wakai.
“Raphael’s Final Act” from Baldur’s Gate leads all songs with 47,463 likes, followed by the “Main Theme” from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with 42,748 likes. Another Baldur’s Gate track, “Down By The River”, has garnered 28,861 likes.
If fans had their way, Baldur’s Gate 3 would win the Best Score and Music award, with The Legend of Zelda also in strong contention.
However, The Game Awards don’t rely solely on YouTube clicks or likes, so all nominated soundtracks still have a fighting chance. Fans can influence the outcome by voting for their favorite. The winner will be announced on December 7th.
