    Manor Lords Takes Top Prize at DevGAMM Lisbon 2024

    DevGAMM Lisbon 2024 has wrapped up in Cascais, Portugal, having brought together 770 attendees from 45 countries and 394 companies.

    A $100,000 prize pool, which was sponsored by Scorewarrior, was awarded at the centerpiece of the event, the DevGAMM Awards Ceremony, which honored outstanding achievements in AA and indie games. The coveted Grand Prize went to Manor Lords by Slavic Magic, earning $20,000 for its innovative and engaging design, with an additional $5,000 shared among the nominees, which included Cryptmaster by Paul Hart and Lee Williams, Loco Motive by Robust Games, Sunset Hills by Cotton Game, and Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall by Brave At Night.

    In the category of Excellence in Game Design, Cryptmaster earned $10,000 for its innovative approach to gameplay mechanics. The Excellence in Visual Art award recognized Sunset Hills for its art direction, also earning $10,000. Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall won Excellence in Narrative for its storytelling, while ODDADA by Sven Ahlgrimm, Mathilde Hoffmann, and Bastian Clausdorff claimed Excellence in Audio for its sound design. Both categories awarded $10,000 to their respective winners.

    The Most Anticipated Game award, which recognizes unreleased titles with exceptional potential, went to Cairn by The Game Bakers. On the mobile front, Dungeons of Dreadrock 2 – The Dead King’s Secret by Christoph Minnameier/Pig Knight Games took home the Best Mobile Game award. Additionally, local Portuguese developer Whales And Games received the Best Game from Portugal award for Townseek.

    DevGAMM also celebrated community involvement with two distinct awards. The Community Vote, determined by public voting, awarded the free-to-play game Kota’s New Journey by KotaMotaGames $2,000. Meanwhile, the Developers Choice award, decided by participating teams, was won by Beyond The Board by Fragile Shapes Studios, which received $3,000.

    Keynote speakers at this year’s conference included John Romero, legendary creator of DOOM, alongside industry veterans such as Terrance Cohen from Insomniac Games, Guido Schmidt from Rovio, and Adam Boyes from Iron Galaxy. Workshops led by experts such as Afonso Ferreira (DECA Games) and Maria Borys-Piątkowska (Flying Wild Hog) offered hands-on learning opportunities.

    The Game Showcase was a highlight of the event, featuring 60 titles that demonstrated the creativity and innovation of developers from around the world. Attendees had the chance to engage directly with the creators, making this one of the busiest areas of the conference. Next year’s event will take place in Gdansk, Poland.
