Unlike some titles, Sony San Diego will also have a physical collector’s edition that will be a must for longtime Yankees fans.

While young star Jazz Chisholm Jr. will be on the standard edition cover, Sony San Diego has now announced that Yankees legend Derek Jeter will grace this year’s special editions, something first unveiled when Jeter was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The last time he was playable in this long standing series was MLB 14: The Show, before Sony San Diego had even changed the game title format to what it is today.
This is also only the second time Sony San Diego has chosen to put a legend on the game’s special edition covers, as last year Shohei Ohtani graced both standard and deluxe editions. MLB The Show 21, however, had the legendary Jackie Robinson as the special edition cover athlete. This is different from Ken Griffey Jr. on MLB The Show 17 as he was on all covers.
Similar to the pick of Takashi Okazaki to provide special edition cover art for Shohei Ohtani on the MLB The Show 22 cover, this year Sony San Diego chose Eisner Award winning comic book artist Sanford Greene to create the Derek Jeter cover art. Greene is most well known for his Eisner Award winning series Bitter Root, but his career has also included work on Fantastic Four, Royals, Marvel’s Voices, and several issues of Power Man and Iron Fist.
Fans will still have to wait a few more days to secure their copies as MLB The Show 23 pre order listings won’t go live until Monday, February 6, 2023. While most of Sony San Diego’s announcement focused on mentions of things going live on the PlayStation Store, MLB The Show 23 pre order listings are also expected to go live through various retailers, the Microsoft Store, and Nintendo eShop on the same day.
MLB The Show 23 pre order rewards, early access release date, and price for all editions
MLB The Show 23 will be available this year on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. It was previously announced that, just like the last few releases, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of MLB The Show 23 will be priced at $69.99 with other past gen platforms at $59.99 for the Standard Edition.
Players who place a digital pre order for the Standard Edition will receive an extra Gold Choice Pack in addition to five The Show Packs and 10,000 Stubs for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S users, and just 5,000 Stubs for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch users.
If you’re willing to take the leap for the more expensive alternatives, there will be a $99.99 physical and digital special edition available this year. For players looking to dive in the moment the MLB The Show 23 early access release date arrives, the Digital Deluxe Edition is a must as you’ll be able to pre-load and start playing at Midnight ET on Friday, March 24, 2023 (Thursday evening). For players who get the physical collector’s edition, they’ll only be able to play once the physical version has been delivered or picked up from a retailer.

Sony San Diego only discussed the PS4 and PS5 version of the MLB The Show 23: The Captain Edition in their announcement, but it is expected to be available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as well. It may not be available for Nintendo Switch due to the lack of dual entitlement, but that should be clarified once MLB The Show 23 pre order listings go live on February 6.
MLB The Show 23 Digital Deluxe Edition rewards
If you’re more worried about hitting the ground running as soon as possible with ease, or are in the slightest bit looking to be competitive in Diamond Dynasty, the best choice is going to be the MLB The Show 23 Digital Deluxe Edition. This digital only version omits the hat and steelbook in favor of additional Packs and Stubs that players will be able to use for an early advantage in Diamond Dynasty, and here are all of the rewards you’ll receive:

Just as with the physical collector’s edition, Sony San Diego only explicitly mentioned the PS4 and PS5 versions of the title with their announcement. However, it is expected to be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but a potential Digital Deluxe Edition on Nintendo Switch is less certain.
As always, many of the MLB The Show 23 pre order rewards focus on the ultimate team mode Diamond Dynasty. New arrivals and players who have been out of the game as long as Derek Jeter should know that the Packs and Stubs included in these versions are beneficial as your Diamond Dynasty journey kicks off, but ultimately not a necessity.
