Right now might just be the perfect time to hit reset with your MyPlayer because all of the rosters are complete and normal again, giving you the chance to play for a team that currently needs a point guard.
So here, we’re exploring which teams you should look to join to maximize your potential with your PG build.
Which teams are the best for a PG in NBA 2K21?
Just because it’s your favorite team or the best team in the league right now, that doesn’t mean that it’s the best situation for your point guard build.
Doing things your way makes you prone to making errors at the beginning, which will cause your superstar grade to drastically drop to F. So, it’s always best to pick a team that needs you rather than a team that you want to fit into.
So, these are the best teams for a new PG to join in NBA 2K21.
1. Los Angeles Lakers
Clearly demonstrating the team’s need for a point guard, the Los Angeles Lakers recently went big to acquire Russell Westbrook to bolster their chances next season. So, in NBA 2K21, now is the chance to make your PG the Westbrook of the Lakers.
What makes this placement so enticing is that you already have sure-balls with passes to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It’s also the best place to rack up VC, with a lot of opportunities off of the ball, and you don’t need those excess calls for passes when your teammates are underperforming.
As such, the LA Lakers look to be the best landing spot for your PG in MyCareer.
2. Miami Heat
Jimmy Butler shouldn’t be doing point guard duties, despite being the leader of the team. That’s also the reason why the guards are getting so much flack whenever they underperform.
In the Heat playbook, guards usually turn into bail-out shooters whenever the zone gets clogged. That said, you can take a page out of Miami’s championship playbook and create a sharpshooting PG instead.
If you wish to be the traditional playmaker, you can run the Heat’s current playbook and take a page out of how Butler makes his plays. That will open him up for spot-up shooting, and occasional lob passes to Bam Adebayo.
You will also want to be on the floor when Duncan Robinson is playing because sure-balls mean easy assists, thus racking up your superstar grade even further.
3. Detroit Pistons
If you fancy committing to a project, you might want to take advantage of the fact that Detroit doesn’t have any stars yet.
Killian Hayes and Dennis Smith Jr. aren’t quite living up to the hype of their respective draft years. So, your PG might be the most under-hyped but most overperforming player on a losing team. That’s nothing to worry about, though, as the Pistons have taken their rebuild mode from real life into NBA 2K21.
There will be some frustration in the beginning, though, because Smith and Hayes might look like they are a Westbrook or James Harden next to a rookie point guard in 2K21.
Just remember that, like the team itself, your player will have to go through the process.
4. Boston Celtics
Yes, the Celtics have Kemba Walker, so perhaps they don’t lend themselves as an optimal landing spot for a PG. Still, the team lacks another one, and sliding a good shooter up to SG won’t hurt once you start improving.
Another upside to this is sharing the floor with Marcus Smart. You don’t need to risk the reach-in foul when your defense-minded teammate can do it for you. A positive to that is that you’ll always be the first on the break.
Boston is a great place for a budding PG, and we haven’t even mentioned the rapid increase in your superstar grade just by passing the ball to Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown.
5. Chicago Bulls
The Bulls don’t have any top-class, natural point guards on the roster. Zach LaVine, Coby White, and Tomas Satoransky are better all better suited to the shooting guard role.
These three are splitting duties at the point when they can focus more on their actual three-point explosions. That said, they would benefit from the assistance of a proper PG.
While they aren’t the most consistent shooters every night, you can still score a few good assists, even on a losing night, for the Bulls.
Beyond the opening night benefits of playing here, you can expect at least one of these three stars to depart the United Center as the game progresses. So, that could leave you as the next star in Chicago.
If you want to become one of the NBA’s top point guards, give yourself the best shot at stardom by starting with either the Bulls, Celtics, Pistons, Heat, or Lakers in NBA 2K21.
How to be a point guard in NBA 2K21
Point guard is one of the most common positions for gamers to pick in NBA 2K, primarily because they want to rack up VC quickly. As the ball will always start in the hands of a PG, it’s the prime position for consistently making an impact.
As the PG, you’ll get to make the big decisions, such as whether or not to pass to a teammate calling for the ball or force the drive despite the low ratings on your attributes.
Growth can be pretty quick, too, because you get easy points on your superstar grade if you pass it to a sure-ball shooter like Khris Middleton or Klay Thompson, who also do well with spot-ups.
Wanting to play like a Patrick Beverley or Marcus Smart might not be the best option with the current NBA 2k21 meta, though, as you might be called for a reach-in. The main aim as a PG is to be as well-rounded as possible.
Expect a lot of errors at the beginning of your career as a point guard. It’s a slow growth, but it is faster than when playing as a small forward or power forward. However, with the right team, you’re going to become a star in a short amount of time. Just choose your answers wisely in those draft interviews.
