In NBA 2K21, obtaining Legend status is one of the most honorable achievements for players. Not only does it earn you an incredible amount of respect in the community, but it is also a huge achievement that comes with great prizes as you progress through the ranks.
Obviously, there are many ways that enable you to rep up in the game. However, some are not the most efficient, while others can help you reach Elite or Legend status a lot faster.
With that said, here is a breakdown of the rep-system in 2K21, along with some techniques that you could use to rep up as efficiently as possible.
How does the rep system work in 2K21?
In NBA 2K21, the rep system is rather simple: a player earns MyPoints every time they play. Points are rewarded for pretty much anything that you do in a game, from scoring, to getting rebounds, to simply winning a match.
The current status of your player can be found in the MyRep Progression bar, which sits under the MyRep tab of MyCareer. Every time it reaches 100 percent along the current rep level, the player will be promoted to the next level. Each time a new level is unlocked, players are rewarded with extra prizes. As they move further up the ranks, the prizes get better.
For example, at the All-Star Two level, your player unlocks exclusive eyewear and arm accessories from Swagโs in the neighborhood. Meanwhile, at Superstar Two, youโll unlock the exclusive Gym Rat badge, which means that your player doesnโt have to visit the gym to earn a weekly boost.
At Elite Three, you will have the ability to earn double VC every time you play. This reward is a game-changer, as it will take you half the time to earn the same amount of VC in whatever games you play. As you can see, there is plenty of incentive for players to level-up as much as possible.
All the rep levels in 2K21
To keep things simple, the rep levels can be broken down into six major categories, as follows: Rookie, Pro, All-Star, Superstar, Elite, and Legend.
Next, these rep-levels are further broken down into subgroups, as follows:
- Rookie: Rookie 1, Rookie 2, Rookie 3
- Pro: Pro 1, Pro 2, Pro 3
- All-Star: All-Star 1, All-Star 2, All-Star 3
- Superstar: Superstar 1, Superstar 2, Superstar 3
- Elite: Elite 1, Elite 2, Elite 3
- Legend
Where can you find your rep progress in 2K21?
In order to track your playerโs current rep status and eligible rewards, simply go into the neighborhood tab and select โMyRep.โ
Once inside the MyRep tab, you can see your playerโs current rep along with the percentage needed to unlock the next level.
By simply scrolling left or right, you are able to see all of the prizes available for each level, starting from Rookie 1 through to Legend.
How to rep up faster in 2K21
In NBA 2K21, there are several ways for you to rep up. However, it is important to remember that not all methods are equal.
To be as efficient as possible, here is a look at some of the easiest and most effective ways to rep up as fast as possible.
1. Wins games and get a good teammate grade
One of the most straightforward ways to rep up fast is to win games and get a good teammate grade every time you play.
As you can see in the picture above, 2Kโs rep system rewards players extra MyPoints for winning. Additionally, if you are able to obtain a high teammate grade (over an A-grade), you will get more than 1,000 bonus points.
Essentially, this is one key thing to remember when playing in any game mode: the ultimate goal is to be a good teammate and help your team win. These two factors are essentially more important than other individual achievements, such as performing flashy dunks or being the highest scorer on the court.
2. Take advantage of double-rep events
Another method that not enough players take advantage of is double rep-events in the community.
Every week, 2K hosts promotional days in which you are able to participate in events to earn double-rep. At these events, everything that your player does gets double the value in MyPoints.
A good way to stay updated with these events is to check the event schedule often and try your best to maximize your game time during those scheduled windows.
Playing at these events will essentially save you half the time and effort, being way more efficient than playing casually on regular days.
3. Take advantage of Daily Spin for a chance at double rep
Another method that you could use to speed up your road to Legend status is to take advantage of the Daily Spin at Jeffโs 2K Arcade in the neighborhood.
Inside, you will find a wheel you can spin for free daily prizes. One of the rewards gives you double-rep for four hours. Although it is not guaranteed that you will win this prize every day, itโs good to at least give yourself a shot.
Once again, this is a highly effective method to rep up faster and is something that you should do before you play any games for that day. Besides that, the Daily Spin also gives out other good prizes such as free wardrobe, attribute boost, and free VC.
4. Throw lobs or finish alley-oops often
Another efficient way to earn MyPoints in NBA 2K21 is to take advantage of executing alley-oops. Arguably one of the most exciting plays in basketball, you are also rewarded handsomely by performing them in the game.
Whether you are playing MyCareer games, competitive rec games, or casual matches in the park, this is one of the most effective ways to earn points fast.
As shown in the picture above, in a simple 2v2 park game, five alley-oop-assists can help you obtain over 4,600 points. As you can see, alley-oop assists garner you many more points than other plays in the game.
Similarly, scoring off of alley-oops is also an effective way to gain my MyPoints fast: this particularly applies to bigs or smaller guards with the ability to dunk.
As shown above, in a single MyCareer game that finishes with eight alley-oop dunks, one alley-oop layup can get you close to 6,000 MyPoints.
Compared to the other categories like free throws, regular dunks, and even posterizing dunks, you can see that the returns are not nearly as lucrative as alley-oop plays.
Skills needed to execute alley-oops
In order to take advantage of alley-oop plays, there are a few fundamental skills and attributes required for your player in MyCareer.
To execute alley-oop assist regularly, the key area to focus on when making a build is pass accuracy. Generally speaking, if your playerโs pass accuracy rating is somewhere above 80, it is considered to be very good in the game.
Furthermore, elite passers in the game, such as Chris Paul, Steph Curry, and LeBron James, all have pass accuracy ratings in the 90s.
Before anything, itโs a good idea to check your current buildโs passing abilities and see if they are capable of dishing out difficult alley-oop passes.
If the passing rating for your current build isnโt sufficient (above 65), you should focus on this area with a new build. Otherwise, it will be much more difficult for your player to execute alley-oop assists regularly.
Badges needed to execute alley-oops
In terms of badges, the most relevant badges for lob passes are:
- Lob City Passer
- Needle Threader
Both badges will give your player an extra boost when attempting alley-oop passes to teammates.
In particular, Lob City Passer improves your playerโs likelihood of successfully completing an alley-oop pass. At the same time, an extra attribute boost is given to both the passer and the receiver to increase their chances of executing the alley-oop.
On the other hand, Needle Threader increases your playerโs passing ability and the probability that your passes will get past defenders. This badge comes in handy as there will be many in-game situations where there is a tight window for you to make a pass to your teammate.
Attributes needed to execute alley-oops
If you plan to make a player that can finish alley-oop opportunities , youโll need to bolster two key attributes: driving dunk and vertical. Both attributes are crucial components that separate great alley-oop finishers from average players.
In terms of driving dunk, it is recommended that your player has at least a 60 rating or higher. That said, a minimum of a 65 rating should be the aim because, at that level, your player has the ability to unlock Pro Alley-Oop dunk animations, significantly improving their finishing ability. For those who want to unlock Elite Alley-Oop dunk package animations, your playerโs driving dunk rating will need to be at least an 85.
Alley-Oop packages and requirements:
- Pro Alley-Oop: 65 Overall, Driving Dunk 65.
- Elite Alley-Oop: 70 Overall, Driving Dunk 85.
Secondly, vertical is a key physical attribute required to catch alley-oop passes in NBA 2K21. Without a decent vertical rating, your player wonโt be able to jump or catch lobs near the basket.
Although there isnโt an exact minimum rating required, itโs recommended that your vertical rating hits at least a 65 rating.
However, if you want to increase your playerโs leaping ability, you should go with a rating in excess of 70; many believe that having a good vertical rating also helps in other areas, such as rebounds and blocking shots.
Best builds to rep up faster
Although there are several ways to rep-up fast in NBA 2K21, many in the community agree that certain builds can help you to get to Legend faster.
As mentioned in a previous section, obtaining a good teammate grade is one of the most straightforward ways to earn extra MyPoints. With that in mind, it tends to be easier for centers and power forwards to consistently obtain a better teammate grade than guards and small forwards.
Bigs are rewarded for simple plays like screens, box out, and rebounds, so, in most cases, your player will have a lot more opportunities to make these plays more often.
In comparison, it is harder for a guard to score, hit shots, and dribble past their opponent all of the time. Additionally, guards are more likely to commit turnovers, and this consistently makes it harder for them to maintain a teammate grade of A or better.
Focus on rebounds and screen
Making a player that has the ability to grab rebounds and set screens is one the easiest way to rep-up. Generally speaking, rebounds not only help your player to boost their teammate grade, but they also grant you new opportunities for extra possessions, such as put-back dunks, extra assists, and scoring plays.
Two badges will help your player significantly in this regard: Rebound Chaser and Brick Wall. These are two must-have badges for bigs that want to be effective in the paint.
Rebound Chaser is arguably one of the most effective badges in NBA 2K21 as it improves your playerโs ability to track and chase down rebounds. Without this badge equipped, your player will have a hard time grabbing rebounds, even against smaller players with a lower rebound rating.
Brick Wall is another highly effective badge for those that want to set good screens consistently; having this badge equipped will make it difficult for your opponents to get through you. At the same time, Brick Wall gets more efficient as the match progresses as it drains energy from your opponents every time you make physical contact with them.
For those that want to make their grind to Legend status as time-efficient as possible, it is recommended that you use these methods consistently in NBA 2K21.
