Starting off on my list of young defensive midfielders is the Italian player Sandro Tonali. He tops the list with an overall rating of 86 and a potential to reach 89 rating if properly nurtured.
The 23 year old’s 85 ball control, 85 short pass, 83 long passing, 79 vision, and 84 composure are already great ratings to put into the defensive midfield role. His 84 aggression, 84 standing tackle, and 81 sliding tackle help him to maintain possession in his position.
In addition to his attributes, he’s a strong, fast, energetic, elegant, and creative midfielder, with excellent vision and an ability to read the game.
He signed a 5 year contract with the English side Newcastle United from Brescia in July 2023. Last season, The 23 year old played for AC Milan on loan and scored 2 goals in 34 appearances for the Italian side.
