Get the best car tuning performance

While car tuning should be based upon each individual track, things work a bit differently in Need for Speed Most Wanted. You can obtain optimal performance on any track by going into the car tuning menu and selecting the following values. Set height to -1 and the aerodynamics to +1 for better handling and tire grip respectively.

How to avoid impound strikes

Getting caught by the police will incur an impound strike against your driving record. Each one makes the penalty for failing steeper. Luckily, you can prevent an impound strike by disconnecting your controller immediately as you are caught. Reconnect the controller and choose to return to safehouse to avoid the negative mark.

How to remove impound strikes

If you did not know about the above trick before getting busted, you can still remove your accrued strikes. Simply turn off your Xbox console the next time you are caught. This will wipe mission progress, but your strikes will vanish.

Getting a jump start in races

To get a quick start at the beginning of each race, time your initial acceleration with the frame in which your speedometer needle turns blue.

At the press start screen, input the following codes before jumping into the game.

Free Car Upgrades – Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Up, Down
Acquire the Porsch Cayman – LT, RT, RT, RT, Right, Left, Right, Down
Acquire the Castrol Version of Ford GT – Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Down, Up, Down
Access the Burger King Challenge Series – Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right

Getting everything else

The above cheats will make purchasing everything you need a breeze. However, some cars must be unlocked by defeating the various Blacklist bosses and finishing the campaign. Each boss you beat will let you pick one of the remaining cars left to complete your garage collection.
