One of the popular features of the Call of Duty games is zombies. They have made their appearances in World at War, the Black Ops tetralogy, WWII, Advance Warfare, and Vanguard. But does the recently released Modern Warfare 2 have a zombie mode?
Despite a leak that indicates the existence of a zombie mode, players thus far have not been able to locate any zombie mode in MW2. Does that mean there is no zombie mode at all? And does how Activision responded to said leak hint at anything? Let’s discuss.
Are There Zombies in MW2?
While CoD is basically synonymous with having a zombie mode, top-level Activision Infinity Ward studios members have confirmed that there is – and will be – no Zombies mode in MW2. In an interview with Venture Beat, developers verbatim said, “there will be no zombies.”
No zombies?! Say it ain’t so! At least there are various other game modes that you can enjoy playing.
What Are the Different Game Modes?
That segue being said, the game mode developers have included in MW2 are pretty awesome. There are eleven game modes to choose from. Those modes are:
- Team Deathmatch
- Free For All
- Ground War
- Domination
- Search And Destroy
- Prisoner Rescue
- Headquarters
- Hard Point
- Knock Out
- Control
- Ground War Invasion
There is a multiplayer gamers mode called Invasion that is very Zombie-esque and could be added in as an update in the future. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that it comes to fruition.

What About the Round Based Zombies and Outbreak Modes Leak?
Remember that leak I mentioned earlier? A data miner named codsploitzimgz discovered and shared images of two modes: Outbreak and Round Based Zombies. They found it during a data mining escapade and posted it online.
When Activision caught wind of this, they immediately went on damage control, and the images were taken down. Take that as you will.
Modern Warfare 2 might not have Zombie mode right now, but there is always the possibility of it entering the game as an update down the road. For the time being, players can settle for the existing eleven modes, all of which offer something fun to do in-game.
