Is Modern Warfare 2 a Remake?

From the impressive technical achievement to the satisfying gunplay, there are many reasons to plant your boots on the ground once again.

Is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 a Remake?

Video game names can be quite tricky to navigate. Especially when a long-running franchise contains two games with the exact same title. Such is the case with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and the revamped Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022).

With the name being the same, you could be forgiven for thinking the 2022 release is just a simple remaster of the classic shooter that rocked Xbox Live back in its heyday. However, Modern Warfare 2 (2022) has many tricks and surprises up its sleeve for returning players.

Infinity Ward, the developer of this entry, has done plenty to make gamers around the world consider this sequel a full-blown remake of the original blockbuster.

A new campaign awaits

Modern Warfare 2 earns the right to be called a remake thanks to the impressive set of new campaign missions. There are many recurring characters playing similar roles in the story as last time, but each level’s scenarios are unique. Fans of the original’s plot will have a few twists and turns to look forward to as well.

Competitive multiplayer is a much different battlefield

The biggest draw to Call of Duty is the suite of competitive multiplayer modes. In a similar vein to the campaign, the assortment of PvP content is completely changed as well. New maps, weapons, and perk systems provide a fresh experience for series veterans who have logged hundreds of hours throughout the years. If you were hoping for some remastered content, there are rumors of classic MW2 maps returning in DLC content drops.

A fresh take on Spec Ops

The original Modern Warfare 2 revolutionized FPS co-op with the introduction of Spec Ops mode. This set of unique missions tasked up to three players with completing specific tasks on progressively higher difficulties. Spec Ops returns in Modern Warfare 2 (2022) with a more traditional campaign framework. Player lobbies are greeted to cutscenes before each operation begins. The added depth makes the mode worth trying at least once.

One of the finest Call of Duty titles

In addition to being a true remake from the ground up, Modern Warfare 2 is just an all-around great game. From the impressive technical achievement to the satisfying gunplay, there are many reasons to plant your boots on the ground once again.
