A key part of the Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay is the dialogue. In several circumstances, your dialogue choices will impact character reactions, the direction that a mission takes, and your potential rewards.
Dialogue icons accompany some options, and as you can’t undo your dialogue choices, it’s a good idea to know what the dialogue symbols mean.
So, on this page, you’ll find everything that you need to know about the conversation colours as well as the dialogue icons and what they mean.
Cyberpunk 2077 dialogue colours explained
You’ll be met with three dialogue colours throughout Cyberpunk 2077: gold, blue, and dull. To use the dialogue options, you’ll need to press Up or Down on the d-pad of either controller and then make your selection by pressing Square (PlayStation) or X (Xbox).
The gold options advance the mission or story, but in some instances, you’ll be presented with several gold dialogue options. The one that you pick will alter the other character’s reaction to you, which can sometimes alter the outcome of the mission.
Blue dialogue options are there to provide you with more information about the conversation topic. Sometimes these just add some more context, but in some instances, selecting blue dialogue can give you important information that will help with the upcoming tasks.
Whenever a conversation starts in Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll want to watch out for a timer bar. Shown as a red bar above the dialogue options, you’ll only have a few seconds to make your choice, such as in the Woman of La Mancha gig. Not selecting a dialogue option will also advance the conversation to the next step, but it’s usually best to make a choice.
When a dialogue option is dulled, however, it means that it’s not available or that you don’t have the right requirements to use the dialogue. This could be because you’ve found a mission before you’re meant to, or you don’t have the right attribute level to pick the dialogue option – as shown by the dialogue icon.
If an option is dulled and has a dialogue icon next to it, likely with a fraction value such as ‘4/6,’ it means that you don’t have a high enough attribute level to use the dialogue. As seen in the image above, if your attribute level is high enough, the dialogue icon will be in bold with the level requirement shown next to the dialogue symbol.
Cyberpunk 2077 dialogue icons key
There are many dialogue icons found in Cyberpunk 2077, but there are only nine that are influenced by your character choices. Five relate your attribute level, three are shown per your life path choice, and one refers to your money.
In the table below, you can find all of the key Cyberpunk 2077 dialogue icons, what they mean, and their requirements.
Dialogue Icon | Name (Description) | Requirement |
|
Body (Fist Icon) | Matched or greater Body attribute level. |
|
Cool (Yin-Yang Icon) | Matched or greater Cool attribute level. |
Intelligence (Eight Dot Icon) | Matched or greater Intelligence attribute level. | |
|
Reflexes (Lens Icon) | Matched or greater Reflexes attribute level. |
|
Technical Ability (Wrench Icon) | Matched or greater Technical Ability attribute level. |
|
Corpo (C) | Choose the Corpo life path at the beginning of the game. |
|
Nomad (N) | Choose the Nomad life path at the beginning of the game. |
|
Streetkid (S) | Choose the Streetkid life path at the beginning of the game. |
|
Eurodollars (€$ Symbol) | Have sufficient Eurodollars on your person. |
As a rule of thumb, whenever an attribute dialogue icon or a life path dialogue symbol is presented, you should consider it as a good option. They’re exclusive to the context and your skill, so using the dialogue with a symbol often helps to resolve the situation favourably.
If you’re unable to use an option that shows one of the attribute dialogue symbols, it means that your equivalent attribute level isn’t high enough. At any point during a conversation, though, you can press the TouchPad (PlayStation) or View (Xbox) button to open the game menu and level-up your attributes.
There are also several action dialogue symbols in Cyberpunk 2077, each of which shows an icon relevant to the action that you need to take. However, these are detailed next to the dialogue symbol and are usually mandatory. Some examples include the enter symbol, switch symbol, take meds symbol, and hotwire symbol.
Now you know all of the key Cyberpunk 2077 dialogue icons and dialogue colours needed to navigate your many conversation sessions in Night City.
