Pine Studio has officially announced Escape Simulator 2, the sequel to the best-selling first-person escape room game, set to arrive on Steam on a date that has yet to be revealed. Promising darker themes, tougher puzzles, and a wealth of technical upgrades, the new title aims to expand on the success of its predecessor with a fresh take on the digital escape room experience.
With 12 all-new escape rooms to unravel, Escape Simulator 2 brings players to vividly crafted locations such as Count Dracula’s creepy castle, a pirate island hiding cursed treasure, and a stranded starship amidst a looming disaster. These rooms were designed in collaboration with real-life escape room experts and the Escape Simulator community’s top builders.

What’s New in Escape Simulator 2?
For starters, Escape Simulator 2 is ditching the bright whimsy of the original for a more mysterious (but not horrifying) vibe. Pine Studio’s co-founder Boris Barbir explained, “We were inspired to explore darker themes and experiment with new gameplay and puzzle mechanics (…) significant technical upgrades, including a new rendering engine, rewritten netcode, improved physics, and enhanced animations (…) it’s not a horror game—there are no jump scares or gore.”
Barbie added that the original Escape Simulator game would continue to be supported and promised to keep enhancing Escape Simulator 2 after launch.
Among the highlights are:
- Immersive Environments: Rooms packed with interactivity. Move, pick up, and examine objects, drive vehicles, and even wipe away dirt.
- Room Editor 2.0: A revamped builder allows players to craft their own escape rooms with multiple tools, like sequence animations, a new lighting engine, and stair-friendly building options.
- Enhanced Multiplayer: Solve mysteries solo or bring along up to seven friends—now with built-in voice and text chat.
- Technical Upgrades: Rewritten netcode, improved physics, and a shiny new rendering engine promise to make everything look and feel better.
