Developing from playmakers in right midfield to another scoring option on the right wing, it’s a new era of three-pronged attacks, where a couple of goal-savvy speedsters complement a sole striker.
Along with supplying their fellow forwards, modern right wingers are expected to run the ball into the box and fire shots on goal, with the need to float precision crosses into aggressive strikers becoming less of a necessity.
Here, we’re running through the next batch of right wing superstars that you can sign in Football Manager 2021, with the best AMR wonderkids being arranged by their potential abilities.
Choosing the best wonderkid right wingers (AMR) in FM 21
To make it onto this list of the best young right wingers in FM 21, each player had to meet the following criteria:
- Be 21-years-old or younger;
- Have a positional rating for AMR of at least 18;
- Have a potential ability rating of at least 150;
- Have a negative potential ability rating of at least -9 (150-180).
If a wonderkid has a negative potential ability (PA) rating in FM 21, it means that their true PA is determined at the start of each game save.
However, the negative PA does translate to a range which can be used to determine if the player is worthy of the wonderkid moniker. Here, only the young players with a negative PA of -9 or higher were included, with -9 giving them a PA range of 150 to 180.
You’ll find all of the right wing wonderkids of FM 21 in a table at the base of the page, with the five best being featured first.
Kylian Mbappé (181 CA / 196 PA)
Team: Paris Saint-Germain
Best Positions: ST, AMR, AML
Current Ability/Potential Ability: 181 CA / 196 PA
Value: £83 million
Best Attributes: 20 Acceleration, 20 Pace, 18 Dribbling
A four-time Ligue 1 champion with two different clubs and a World Cup winner, Kylian Mbappé is still only 21-years-old. It’s not like the Parisian is merely a squad member picking up enough appearances to get a medal, either, being a two-time French league top-scorer and decisive in France’s 2018 triumph.
Despite missing a few of the early games of this season, Mbappé is already scoring for fun. By the 12-game mark of this Ligue 1 season – of which, the Paris Saint-Germain forward only played in eight – he led the league with nine goals, setting up another five for good measure.
Starting with a 181 CA, Mbappé is already one of the best players in FM 21, with his 196 PA easily ranking him as the best right wing wonderkid in the game. Should you develop the Frenchman correctly and bring him to his 196 PA, he’ll have superior ability than either Lionel Messi (195 CA) or Cristiano Ronaldo (194 CA).
The best play when it comes to Mbappé is to put him as close to the goal as you can, with him being able to play at his full ability in the AMR, AML, or ST roles. Also ranking as the best wonderkid striker in FM 21, the youngster’s attacking ratings are already very impressive, as shown by his 18 dribbling, 17 finishing, 18 flair, 20 pace, 20 acceleration, and 16 agility.
Jadon Sancho (158 CA / 178 PA)
Team: Borussia Dortmund
Best Positions: MR, AMR, ML, AML
Current Ability/Potential Ability: 158 CA / 178 PA
Value: £40.5 million
Best Attributes: 18 Dribbling, 18 Agility, 17 Vision
Having left the Premier League due to the unlikelihood of getting game time in 2017, the focus around Jadon Sancho now is when he’ll return to England and for what price. The Londoner started in the Watford academy, moved north to join the Manchester City ranks, but then switched to German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Given that he’ still only 20-years-old but has already played over 100 games, with 37 goals and 47 assists to date, it’s fair to say that Sancho made the right choice to jump the ship of the Citizens. While primarily featuring on the right wing this season, the Englishman has also featured on the left and in attacking midfield.
With 18 England caps and three international goals to his name already, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that FM 21 rates Sancho as one of the best young AMRs in the game. He starts with a strong 158 CA, but that can grow into his mighty 178 PA if given enough match time and the right training.
A real menace on the ball with an eye for turning provider, Dortmund’s star wonderkid already poses a tremendous threat at AMR, MR, ML, and AML in the game. His 18 dirbbling, 16 first touch, 16 passing, 17 technique, 17 vision, and 16 decisions translate to plenty of goalscoring opportunities for Sancho’s club.
Nicolò Zaniolo (150 CA / 176 PA)
Team: AS Roma
Best Positions: AMC, AMR
Current Ability/Potential Ability: 150 CA / 176 PA
Value: £19.75 million
Best Attributes: 18 Determination, 17 Aggression, 16 Strength
Joining AS Roma as a part of a deal which saw midfield monster Radja Nainggolan move to Inter Milan, Nicolò Zaniolohas already more than warranted his £4 million fee. While he had to bide his time during his first season, the Italian managed to cement a starting role by the middle of the campaign, ending with six goals and three assists in 36 contests.
Last season, the lanky wonderkid looked to take another big step forward in his development. Playing as a right winger and an attacking midfielder, Zaniolo became a first-team regular until he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Despite being eased back into proceedings at the end of the season, he suffered yet another ACL injury before the 2020/21 campaign commenced.
Regardless of his injury struggles, FM 21 has seen enough to give Zaniolo a hefty 150 CA and 178 PA to stand him among the best right wing wonderkids. As he has done for Roma, the man born in Massa is perfectly capable of playing in AMC as well as AMR in the game.
Within this batch of the best right wingers in FM 21, what stands out about Zaniolo is the fact that he stands 6’2’’ but still possesses tricky feet and a fair amount of speed. He starts the game with 14 acceleration, 13 agility, 16 pace, 16 technique, 16 dribbling, 16 strength, and 16 finishing, making him a powerful yet skilful addition.
Ferran Torres (149 CA / 165 PA)
Team: Manchester City
Best Positions: MR, AMR
Current Ability/Potential Ability: 149 CA / 165 PA
Value: £33.5 million
Best Attributes: 17 Acceleration, 15 Dribbling, 15 Agility
Quite possibly due to how he was fast-tracked through the system, having been earmarked early in his career as a future star, Ferran Torres never really put up the mind-melting stats associated with such a highly-praised young player. He blazed through Valencia Mestalla with a goal and five assists in 12 games, and was then regularly deployed by the first-team from the 2017/18 season onwards.
In 97 games for Valencia CF, Torres tallied 21 goal contributions. Even though his performances rarely translated to goals and assists, his talent was there for all to see. His potential certainly wasn’t missed by Pep Guardiola, who commissioned Manchester City to scoop up the £20.7 million bargain during Valencia’s fire sale over the summer.
Like Guardiola, Football Manager 21 also rates the 20-year-old very highly. He ranks among the very best young right wingers in FM 21, courtesy of his 165 PA. To make Spaniard an even more appealing acquisition, he starts the game with a very usable 149 CA.
Through an injury crisis at the Etihad Stadium, Torres has featured as a striker, left winger, and right winger en route to five goals in his first 12 games. In FM 21, however, his strengths are as an AMR or MR. The Foios-born attacker’s 17 acceleration, 15 pace, 15 dribbling, 15 flair, 14 off the ball, 14 finishing, and 12 long shots mean that Torres is capable of having an impact in either right-sided role.
Samuel Chukwueze (138 CA / 165 PA)
Best Positions: MR, AMR
Current Ability/Potential Ability: 138 CA / 165 PA
Value: £11 million
Best Attributes: 17 Dribbling, 16 Acceleration, 16 Flair
Spotted and signed from Nigeria’s Diamond Academy back in 2017, Villarreal knew that they had a special talent on their hands with Samu Chukwueze. In the 2018/19 season, the powerhouse winger broke into the first-team, playing 28 games for the Yellow Submarine. While he featured in 41 games last season, scoring four goals and six assists in that time, the youngster’s form was volatile, leading to several substitute showings.
Now, under Unai Emery for the 2020/21 campaign, the native of Umahaia seemed to have the favour of his new boss in the early stages of the season. Consistently starting as the club’s right winger, despite the presence of fellow wonderkid Takefusa Kubo, his first 12 matches of the season yielded a goal and three assists.
Chukwueze continues to show his promise in La Liga, which has been noted in the form of his 138 CA and standing as one of the best AMR wonderkids of FM 21 with a 165 PA. He can be utilised as a right winger or right midfielder, and presents one of the cheaper transfer targets of the top-five right wing wonderkids here.
The Nigerian winger is all about driving at the defence with the ball at his feet. Chukwueze’s 16 acceleration, 14 agility, 16 pace, 15 strength, 17 dribbling, 16 determination, 16 flair, and 17 technique make him a real menace down the right side. However, the end product of the 21-year-old is still lacking, due to his 11 finishing, 13 crossing, 13 passing, and ten long shots.
