Former ‘Squad’ Game Devs Debut New Tactical Shooter EXFIL

Iconic simulation publisher MicroProse, in partnership with Misultin Studios, releases this week into early access the highly anticipated tactical first-person shooter, EXFIL.

On December 11, 2024, at 7 PM PDT | 10 PM EDT | 3 AM GMT | 4 AM CET, players worldwide will be the first to experience “a new standard in realism-focused combat and sandbox-style gameplay.”

Misultin Studios, a tight, four-person development team that includes three ex-senior developers from the acclaimed Squad franchise, is the group behind EXFIL, a game that aims to combine the intensity of competitive FPS mechanics with a freedom-driven multiplayer experience that delivers PvP, PvE, and hybrid cooperative gameplay.

    A Unique Multiplayer Vision

At its core, EXFIL allows up to 32 players to engage in tactical matches, dividing into four teams of eight. Early Access will feature two extraction-style game modes:

    • Classic Extraction: Competing teams vie to secure critical intel and exfiltrate the battlefield, with only one team emerging victorious.
    • Rogue Extraction: A high-stakes asymmetric mode where a small team of rogue operatives must evade and outwit a larger opposing force to escape with valuable intel.

Six massive handcrafted maps will be available at launch, each bringing unique environmental challenges and aesthetic variety, including industrial zones, military camps, dense forests, and ports.

    Immersive Gameplay Features

EXFIL claims to push the boundaries of tactical FPS gameplay with several standout features:

    • Realistic Bullet Physics: Every shot is calculated for trajectory, environmental interaction, material penetration, and ricochets.
    • Dynamic Environments: Players must adapt to day/night cycles, realistic weather systems, and visibility conditions like rain, fog, and sandstorms.
    • Authentic Arsenal: The game offers a growing collection of weapons, traps, and tactical gear, with ongoing updates planned to expand player options.
    • Built-in VOIP and Proximity Chat: Team communication is central to the experience, but proximity chat adds an element of strategy—enemy teams can eavesdrop.

    A Community-Driven Approach

With over 3,000 members in its official Discord, EXFIL’s developers have been listening to player feedback to shape the game’s evolution. Future updates include a scenario editor, NPC integration, and a global stat tracking system.

    • Sandbox Customization: Players can toggle features like tactical pings, name tags, weather conditions, and uniforms to create their ideal gameplay environment.

    The Future of EXFIL

The developers have committed to a long-term roadmap, promising continuous updates and feature rollouts over the next 12–18 months. Upcoming enhancements include:

    • Slot-Based Inventory System: Greater flexibility for loadouts and kits.
    • NPC Integration: Adding dynamic AI opposition forces.
