Fortnite: Complete Controls Guide for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, Switch, & Mobile

Here’s everything you need to know about the Fortnite controls across all platforms including the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Anyone with a Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, or strong enough mobile device can play Fortnite Battle Royale. The game is free to download, with its cross-platform playability making it even more accessible.

All of the platforms for Fortnite Battle Royale feature controller presets, but in most cases, it’s very easy to customise your controls.

Here, we’ll be breaking down the build controls and the combat controls for Fortnite on all of the consoles, PC, and mobile, with each of the preset control configurations covered for each platform.

Fortnite PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Switch Controls

It’s very easy to translate Fortnite Battle Royale gaming between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, with the Fortnite controls being very much the same on each console.

On each
console, there are four sets of preset Fortnite controls, which are Old School,
Quick Builder, Combat Pro, and Builder Pro. You can also modify the controls
yourself with the Custom option.

Within each
controls preset, there are build controls and combat controls. Below, we have
the build and combat controls across each console listed for all four of the
preset Fortnite controller configurations.

In this
guide, the controls which involve the right or the left analogue on either the Nintendo
Switch, Xbox One, or PS4 controller will be denoted as ‘R’ or ‘L.’

The
analogue button on either side (activated by pressing down the analogue) of
each console controller is denoted as ‘R3’ or ‘L3’.

Any
direction noted (Up, Down, Left, Right) is in reference to the directions on
the console controller’s direction pad (found on the left side of all console
controllers).

Fortnite Old School controls on PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch

The Old
School Controls preset on consoles is how players used to play the game at
launch.

It gives you
a good introduction to how the game is played, but as those who have played
since the beginning will note, many of the controls aren’t in optimal
positions.

Once you
find out how you prefer to play (as a builder or for the combat), you’ll likely
move on to another set of Fortnite controls.

Fortnite PC Controls

As you would assume, even with Fortnite Battle Royale, the PC platform is hailed as the best way to play the game.

While the
more powerful hardware is a perk of playing on PC, the true advantage that PC
gamers get over console and especially mobile gamers is quicker access to a
wider set of Fortnite controls.

As is the
case with the Fortnite controls on consoles, there is a preset keyboard
configuration that will be your default PC Fortnite controls. That said, it’s
very easy to customise your Fortnite controls to the way that you think is the
best.

In the table
below, you’ll find the preset PC Fortnite controls under the Standard (Default)
settings. It’s very easy to change your Fortnite controls on the PC, but this
is how it’s all set up from the start.
