Considered both a spinoff and a sequel, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has continued the lore and popularity of its prequels in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Set at least over a decade since the events of Shippuden, Boruto picks up with the titular character, the son of Naruto, and his friends – who just so happen to be the children of the couples created from the characters in the previous two series.
Unlike Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, Boruto is an ongoing anime airing Sundays in Japan. In another departure from the prequels, Boruto does not have official season or arc designations. Basically, the 230+ episodes are one connecting story. Boruto also has not had a movie released during its run with Boruto: Naruto the Movie having been released during Shippuden’s run.
Below, you will find your guide on watching Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. To help with readability, the episodes will be broken up into 50-episode parts as those tend to be good places to end both numerically and in the story. After the first listing, you will find a list for mixed, anime, and manga canon episodes. There will also be a list of manga canon only episodes. The final list will be a filler episodes only list.

Yes, you can skip all filler episodes. They have no effect on the main story.
Can I watch Boruto without watching Naruto and Naruto Shippuden?
Yes, though it’s not recommended. With the focus being mainly on the children – as the original Naruto was – it’s essentially a new story with some ties to the history of the series. However, Naruto, Sasuke, Hinata, Sakura, Shikamaru, Sai, Konohamaru, and Shino, as well as the events that led to the decisive battle with Kaguya Otsutsuki, do play a major role particularly early in the series.
Still, to get the full scope of the history, lore, characters, and development, it’s highly recommended to watch from the beginning (check out viewing guides on Naruto and Naruto Shippuden).

Why are there so many anime and mixed canon episodes for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations?
The manga of Boruto began serialization in May 2016, but has been on a monthly release schedule. The anime began less than a year later in April 2017. Basically, the pace of the anime exceeds the manga. The anime even went on a hiatus during parts of the pandemic and still has less than 60 manga canon episodes.
