Gintama (or Gin Tama) began manga serialization in 2003, ending in 2018. Hedeaki Sorachi’s creation follows Gintoki Sakata in Edo-era Japan. However, this version of the Edo period was conquered by aliens known as the Amanto. Sakata’s adventures to pay the bills as a freelancer eventually leads to the forming of the Yorozuya with two others.

The anime adaptations have had an interesting history to say the least. There are many titled series for the adaptation, which can cause confusion if going into Gintama cold. The first adaptation began airing in 2006 with the final adaptation airing in 2018.

Can I skip all Gintama filler episodes?

Yes, you can skip all Gintama filler episodes. As fillers, they’re fully skippable as they have no bearing on the actual story. Gintama has a fairly low number of fillers with only 22 filler episodes.


How many seasons and episodes are there of Gintama?

The original series had four seasons. However, if each subsequent titled series is considered a season, then there are ten overall seasons of Gintama. In total, there are 367 episodes. However, some consider OVA 3-4, “The Semi-Final (Special),” to be episodes 368-369. If you subtract the 22 filler episodes, that leaves you with 345 episodes. If you then remove the mixed canon episodes, that leaves you with 341 episodes.
