Ghost of Tsushima is already a superb game; it has just about everything that you could possibly want in a single-player, open-world title.
Now, Ghost of Tsushima is getting a free update which will allow you to team-up online as legendary warriors of Japan in a world inspired by the mythology and folklore of the land.
Here’s what we know so far.
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends trailer
To accompany the announcement of this brand new Ghost of Tsushima DLC, developers Sucker Punch also provided a demonic trailer that features cinematics and a slither of gameplay footage.
As you can see from the video, Legends takes place in a very different realm to that of the island of Tsushima, which you’ve been battling as Jin to reclaim.
It’s set to be a completely new experience, but maybe a bit aesthetically similar to when you take on the Tengu Demon.
What is Ghost of Tsushima: Legends?
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will feature several game modes, focussing on bringing you together with up to three other players online to conquer the co-operative tasks. It’s an exclusively co-operative experience.
You’ll need to have from two to four friends or other players via online matchmaking to play any of the game modes.
Once you’re set, you’ll get to choose between the Assassin, Ronin, Samurai, or Hunter, with each class of legend featuring different gameplay mechanics, such as specialist abilities.
If it’s just you and one other player, you’ll be able to embark on the co-op Story missions of increasing difficulty, which will occasionally require you to synchronise with your fellow warrior.
Get yourself a party of four Ghost of Tsushima players, and you can take on the Survival game mode. Here, you’ll face wave after wave of enemies, as well as brand new foes known as Oni, who wield supernatural powers.
Coming in a later expansion of the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends DLC is the game mode Raid. You and three others will travel to a new realm within the mythos, tasked with defeating a “brutal, terrifying enemy,” per PlayStation Blog.
When’s the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends release date?
Having only just announced the upcoming free expansion to Ghost of Tsushima, Legends only has a rough release date. The new online co-operative multiplayer game mode is set to launch in autumn 2020.
If you’ve already finished Ghost of Tsushima and can’t wait to team-up with your fellow samurai online, you could try to beat the game in its recently added ‘Lethal’ mode, which was brought to the game in an update on 27 July.
According to the announcement post, more information about Ghost of Tsushima: Legends – such as customisation options and details on each class – will be revealed as we get closer to its release date.
