John Cena’s musical credentials date back nearly two decades
While some fans might know John Cena more for his wrestling and film experience or be focused on his presence as the WWE 2K23 cover star, he actually brings plenty of musical experience to his work on the WWE 2K23 soundtrack. Though practically pure meme at this point, John Cena’s longtime entrance theme “The Time Is Now” is from his debut studio album alongside his cousin Tha Trademarc.
The album, dubbed You Can’t See Me, was released in 2005 with over 143,000 copies sold in week one with a mix of rap and R&B throughout that paid homage to classic two-man duos trading verses throughout each song. Since that debut, John Cena has been featured in tracks from The Perceptionists and T-Boz, and he was in two songs with Wiz Khalifa for the WWE 2K15 soundtrack.
Even before his studio album took off, John Cena recorded his earlier WWE theme song “Basic Thuganomics” which was first released in 2003. There have been rumors and discussions for years about a second album, but as of now a full-length studio release hasn’t arrived from John Cena since his debut in 2005. For fans that have been hoping for more, the WWE 2K23 soundtrack offers a glimpse at his personal artistic tastes.
