    Hogwarts Legacy: Flying Guide

Please be aware that there are content spoilers ahead.

Hogwarts Legacy has kept your feet on the ground for the most part early in the game, but now things are ramping up, and Madam Kogawa is set to give you a lesson in flying. You want to know the basics before you start, and this guide will help you with just that.

In this guide you will learn:

    • The basic controls for flying brooms and mounts
    • The questlines required to unlock both brooms and mounts
    • Hints and tips on flying

What are the basic controls for flying brooms and mounts in Hogwarts Legacy?

Let’s start with brooms as they are unlocked first. The button layout is pretty straightforward. To summon your broom, hold L1 or LB to bring up the consumable and flying menus. Select your broom by pressing Circle or B; you will then mount your broom and hover in place. You can also dismount with the same button.

To move forward, use the Left Stick and the Right Stick to change your altitude. Holding R2 or RT helps you to move forward at speed. Holding L2 or LT gives you an extra boost, but only for a short duration.

Mounts are summoned in the same menu by holding L1 or LB and pressing Triangle or Y. The controls for your mount are largely the same without the ability to boost. To take off from the ground, use X or A.

What are the questlines required to unlock brooms and mounts?

    First flying lesson

Kogawa’s flying lesson is what you need to look out for to unlock your broom flying. The lesson gives you a brief overview of flying a broom while challenging you to go through a course. You can then choose to take Everett Clopton up on his offer of a real challenge and learn about the L2 or LT speed boosting.

There are also further upgrades for your broom. Speak to Albie Weekes in his Hogsmeade shop, Spintwitches Sporting Needs, to begin the questline. He challenges you to beat Imelda Reyes’ time trial record in Hogwarts, Irondale, and Cragmoor Castle. If you succeed, he will offer you upgrades for your broom.

To unlock your mounts, you should look out for The High Keep, which is the 27th main quest in Hogwarts Legacy. You will also need to complete Deek’s sidequest to unlock the vivarium in the Room of Requirement.

    Hints and tips on flying

    Madam Kogawa flying

Flying isn’t just about speed, although it can make travelling greater distances a lot faster unless you’ve unlocked the floo flame in your desired destination. Reyes’ time trials require you to fly through hoops to avoid penalties and burst balloons to get speed boosts. There are also a number of areas that you are unable to fly, including Hogsmeade and inside Hogwarts.

Revelio can be cast when flying or riding either broom or mount, which can prove incredibly useful for exploring from a different viewpoint.

Your mounts will need to be looked after in the vivarium, so be sure to take good care of them.

Now you can take to the sky with confidence, whether it be on an upgraded broom or your trusty mount.
