Rather than a traditional leveling system, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has instead linked your total skill points to your character’s Power. New locations have a Suggested Power, and often you’ll want to at least get in the ballpark of them before venturing to those places.
If somewhere has a Suggested Power of 90, you might be alright if you’re closer to 75 or 80, but with just a Power of 20, you’d probably want to wait if you’re not looking to die the second that you encounter an enemy. Even in those locations, you can still enter and attempt to travel carefully to acquire things in areas that you normally wouldn’t yet be operating in, but this is always a risk.
Fortunately, there are a handful of ways to focus the way that you play AC Valhalla to maximize your XP, level up, and increase your Power fast.
Follow the main story of AC Valhalla

This one felt counterintuitive to me at first, but following the main story can still be one of the most consistent and quickest ways to increase Power in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. You aren’t actually required to grind heavily throughout regions to continue the main story.
Completing the quests these main story missions provide, and killing the many enemies you’ll encounter in them, can be a great way to boost your Power, level up, and make your character stronger.
Even if you enter an area that’s a little over your Power, such as 15 points above, you may be able to manage without too much difficulty. If you do encounter a mission that’s a bit too hard, you can always detour to increase your Power and return later.
Use stealth and creativity to maximize your killing XP

One of the best ways to maximize the XP you’re getting as you’re playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is to embrace the assassin part of the game’s title. While you’ll get XP from every enemy you kill, you’ll actually get significantly more if you choose to assassinate them.
The game incentivizes taking a stealthy and calculated approach this way, and trying this method will also make it easier to operate in areas where the Suggested Power might be a bit above your current Power.
Advanced Assassination is a key skill for this method, as you can eliminate even elite enemies that are significantly stronger than you with optimal timing. You also want to embrace your creativity for environmental kills.
That can mean blowing up oil pots, dropping cargo on enemies, and destroying the platforms they’re standing on to watch them plummet to their deaths. All these things will give you more XP than a regular kill, and can be a great way to take out enemies from a distance.
Synchronize every location you can find in AC Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a very big game, and it brings with it large maps with multiple regions to explore. Just traveling to new locations will net you some XP, but you’ll also want to synchronize as much as you possibly can.
Small eagle icons on the map represent synchronization spots. Not only will traveling to and activating these net you XP, but they’ll make the game much easier on you as you’ll be able to Fast Travel to any previously activated synchronization location.
Make your way up and down the rivers as well, as this can activate dock locations and unlock places. Just traveling up and down the rivers, even if you don’t make landfall, can unlock new locations and net you some XP.
Standing Stones, Fly Agaric, Treasures of Britain, and Offering Altar Skill Points

These four mysteries, located all throughout Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, will be marked on your map as white dots indicating Mysteries. While there are other Mysteries in the game, these three are going to be your best bet to increase Power quickly and level up.
Standing Stones are challenges where you’ll need to find exactly the right spot to stand that lines up a special symbol in your view. Fly Agaric are complicated hallucinogenic puzzles, an Offering Altar will ask you to bring specific items to it, and the Treasures of Britain will help you get closer to acquiring Excalibur.
Completing any one of these will net you an entire Skill Point, regardless of the XP needed to earn your next Skill Point. You definitely want to prioritize completing these when you find them, or seeking them out if you’re just a few Skill Points short of a new skill you want.
Complete Reda’s contracts

The last one comes with a bit of luck, but these simple contracts can be a great way to earn XP each day. Reda’s shop and daily contracts will become available after completing your first pledge arc for Grantebridgescire in England.
Once you have access, be sure to check with Reda or one of her contacts in various locations around Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to claim these daily contracts. Usually they’ll be a simple goal of eliminating a specific target or locating a missing person.
Do be careful, as it is possible to receive contracts that send you to locations and enemies way above your Power. If you find one too difficult to complete, just wait for it to expire and try the next day’s contracts.
This will grant you some easy XP, and also earn you Opal which can be used with Reda to purchase unique equipment and cosmetic options for your character.
