When it comes to scouting left backs, most of them come at a high price which can make them difficult to sign – especially if your club is on a strict budget. 

Thankfully, EA Sports FC 24’s Career Mode has loads of cheap left backs who have high potential ratings.

So here, we’re going through the best cheap left backs with high potential in the game. At the bottom of the article, you can see the full list of all the best cheap left backs with high potential. 

1. Valentín Barco (71 OVR, 84 POT)

Team: Boca Juniors

Age: 19

Wage: £3,000 p/w

Value: £3.6 million

Best Attributes: 82 Agility, 78 Balance, 76 Acceleration

Valentín Barco comes into Career Mode with a 71 overall and 84 potential rating. At the age of 19, he’s already a top target for many elite clubs, which is why he tops the list of cheap left backs to sign in Career Mode.

Listed as a left back in EA Sports FC 24, Barco’s 82 agility, 78 balance, 76 acceleration, 76 sprint speed, and 83 reactions make him a solid choice in the defensive position.

The 19-year-old is a versatile left-footed defender with the ability to distribute the ball and also overlap, which is a key ability for wing backs and certainly helped to make him my top pick.

Barco began his career with the Argentine sports club Sportivo Las Parejas at the age of three. After six years, he was scouted and immediately signed by Argentine giants Boca Juniors.

2. Patrick Dorgu (65 OVR, 83 POT)

Team: Leece

Age: 18

Value: £1.4 million

Having broken into the U.S. Leece first team under Roberto D’Aversa, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu retained the starting left back role and commences Career Mode with a 65 overall rating and 83 potential.

If you choose to play Dorgu, you’ll have someone who boasts 71 agility and 66 stamina and can outmuscle opponents to win the ball. Dorgu can also hold his own when tracking speedy wingers, boasting 83 sprint speed and 77 acceleration. 

Dorgu joined the under-19 squad of his Italian club in July 2022 and made his debut a year later in a Coppa Italia game against Como. One week later, he made his debut in Serie A against S.S. Lazio.

The 18-year-old is yet to make his international debut for the Danish first team, but I believe that after enough playing time, the youngster will represent his country and also reach his 83 potential in EA Sports FC 24.

3. Jeanuël Belocian (68 OVR, 83 POT)

Team: Stade Rennais

Age: 18

Value: £2.3 million

Best Attributes: 72 Sprint Speed, 75 Jumping, 71 Standing tackle

Jeanuël Belocian may be one of the lowest rated – regarding OVR – on our list, but the young left back certainly boasts tremendous potential of 83 rating.

The Stade Rennais defender isn’t the quickest on our list, but he does have decent ratings of 72 sprint speed, 75 jumping, and 71 standing tackle. The Frenchman is good at his defensive duties, too, coming in with ratings of 69 sliding tackles and 68 defensive awareness.

Still only 18-years-old, Belocian has what it takes to reach his 83 potential. He’s already a handful at the back already, thanks to his mid-range stats.

Belocian joined the youth division of AJC before moving to Stade Lamentinois. He later joined the youth academy of Rennes in 2020 and signed his first professional contract with the club until 2024. He made his professional debut for Rennes in a 6–1 home win to Metz.

4. Tom Rothe (67 OVR, 83 POT)

Team: Holstein Kiel

Age: 18

If you are looking for a left back who’s armed with high physicality rated, then look to the 6’3’’ Tom Alexander Rothe, who is rated 67 overall with an 83 potential rating.

Rothe has excellent physical attributes from the outset, featuring 78 strength, 77 jumping, and 71 crossing. The 18-year-old is also durable, entering the game with a rating of 67 stamina.

The German-born defender can be an excellent option at LB. However, if you wish to be more aggressive, you can also deploy Rothe at LWB position. Here, he can cause a lot of problems behind enemy lines.

Rothe joined Borussia Dortmund from FC St. Pauli in 2021 and scored on his debut against Wolfsburg in a 6–1 win. Later on, he joined Holstein Kiel on a one-year loan move. Despite his impressive stats, he’s yet to play at the international level, but with more playing time, I believe he’ll be called up.

5. Lukas Ullrich (62 OVR, 82 POT)

Team: Borussia Mönchengladbach

Age: 19

Best Attributes: 70 Balance, 68 Acceleration, 66 Sprint Speed

Another player who’s an excellent option at left back is Lukas Ullrich, who comes into EA Sports FC 24 Career Mode with a 62 overall rating and a whooping 82 potential rating.

Ullrich has middling movement skills at 66 sprint speed and 68 acceleration, making him a reasonable defensive left back. The 18-year-old also has 64 strength and 65 stamina, which can come in handy in one-on-one battles down the touchline.

Ullrich has a good crossing technique, he can be a goal threat, and the German can go at a high intensity for 90 minutes.

He began his career playing for the Hertha BSC academy and is currently signed to Borussia Mönchengladbach. He also got called up to the under-17s, under-18s, and under-19s of Germany.

6.  Prince Aning (62 OVR, 82 POT)

Team: Borussia Dortmund II

Age: 19

He may only enter the game at 62 overall, but Prince Adu-Addae Aning’s 82 potential is more than good enough for him to eventually play a substantial role in Career Mode.

For a kid with 62 overall, it must be said that he’s got some decent stats. His 90 balance, 85 agility, 82 sprint speed, and 84 acceleration are superb for a 19-year-old.

Aning has already played for Netherlands side Ajax and currently plays for German giants Borussia Dortmund, for their second team. Given time, Aning may be one of the best left backs in the game and may even challenge for a BVB first-team spot in the near future.

7. Álvaro Fernández (70 OVR, 82 POT)

Age: 20

Álvaro Fernández Carreras’ 82 potential is good enough to play a role in your Career Mode squad, and his 70 rating makes him a usable option immediately.

Fernández can be effective in the full back position or in midfield. The 20-year-old is a nippy defender with 77 stamina, 76 agility, 78 sprint speed, and a preference for dribbling, courtesy of his 75 dribbling rating.

He is noted for his anticipation, composure, tackling, and passing ability, while Fernández’s vision helps him to create dangerous attacks in the opponent’s yard.

Still only 20-years-old, top clubs like Barcelona and Manchester City have had an eye on him. He’s played for great teams like Real Madrid and Manchester United, but is currently signed to Spanish side Granada CF on loan.
