FIFA 23 Wonderkids: Best Young Goalkeepers (GK) to Sign in Career Mode

In this article we will look at ALL of the best Wonderkid Goalkeepers (GK) in FIFA 23

FIFA 23-Best Young Goalkeepers

Two positions are of the greatest importance in football: the person scoring the goals and the one stopping them from going in. In this article we are going to look at the best young goalkeepers FIFA 23 has to offer and hopefully help you to find that shot stopper who can be the difference between winning and losing.

Goalkeepers often get criticised because their mistakes can be the most costly. Football is a game that rewards goal scorers far more than the unsung heroes that prevent goals. However, goalkeepers can be just as important to a team’s success.

If you’re not yet sure of your GK skills, here is our complete FIFA 23 goalkeeper guide on controls and more.

Gavin Bazunu (70 OVR – 85 POT)

Team: Southampton
Age: 20
Position: GK
Wage: £11,000 p/w
Value: £2.9 million
Best Attributes: 79 Jumping, 72 GK Kicking, 72 GK Reflexes

The first wonderkid goalkeeper in our list is Southampton’s Gavin Bazunu with a rating of 70 overall. With an impressive 85 potential, there is plenty of room for progression for this 20-year-old.

The Irishman has some decent stats for a player early in his development with 79 Jumping helping in a multitude of situations especially from set pieces when out-jumping attackers to claim the ball. The Saints youngster also has 72 kicking and 72 reflexes making both his distribution and reaction saves of great quality.

Beginning his career in his homeland with Shamrock Rovers, Bazunu was soon picked up by Manchester City in 2019 but was unable to break his way into the first team instead of going out on loan at Rochdale and Portsmouth respectively.

Southampton, after losing Fraser Forster to Tottenham in the summer, opted to call Bazunu back from loan to compete with Alex McCarthy and Willy Caballero. Bazunu made 44 appearances in all competitions for Portsmouth last season and kept 17 clean sheets. He also has 10 international caps for Ireland.

Maarten Vandevoordt (70 OVR – 84 POT)

Team: KRC Genk
Age: 20
Position: GK
Wage: £4,000 p/w
Value: £2.9 million
Best Attributes: 73 GK Diving, 73 GK Reflexes, 70 GK Handling

Maarten Vandevoordt of KRC Genk is in the early stages of his career but he’s got bags of potential if his numbers are anything to go by. His ratings of 70 overall and 84 potential make him well worth picking for your career mode save.

The 20-year-old has some fairly good attributes at an early stage in his career. His 73 diving skills will help him deflect shots on goals that are difficult to reach, while his 73 reflexes and 68 reactions will enable him to react quickly. Not to forget his 70 handling which will ensure he won’t fumble or drop the ball at key moments in the game.

The talented Belgian stopper currently plays for KRC Genk and has worked his way up through the youth ranks and has secured a future move to German side RB Leipzig in 2024 with a deal thought to be valued at £9m.

Last season Vandevoordt made 48 appearances across all competitions for Blauw-Wit and kept 11 clean sheets. So far internationally, the talented young stopper has been selected at every age level from U15 right up to U21 where he has made seven appearances shutting his opponents out on four occasions.

Giorgi Mamardashvili (78 OVR – 84 POT)

Team: Valencia CF
Age: 21
Position: GK
Wage: £14,000 p/w
Value: £12 million
Best Attributes: 79 GK Positioning, 79 GK Diving, 80 GK Reflexes

Giorgi Mamardashvili is a bit further on in his development and this is reflected in his valuation. His 78 overall is great to begin with but the fact that he can improve to 84 potential makes him an attractive option in your Career Mode save.

The Valencia man is a quality keeper with some great stats which include his 80 positioning, 79 diving and 79 reflexes, making him a reliable option between the sticks right from the start of your Career mode save. His 78 handling means he is calm under pressure and will claim the ball with confidence from set pieces and crosses.

The 21-year-old Georgian currently plays for La Liga side Valencia CF arriving from Dinamo Tbilisi initially on loan and then on a permanent basis for a fee of £765K. Marmadashvili made 21 first-team appearances for Los Che last season keeping nine clean sheets during that time.

He also made two appearances for Dinamo Tbilisi. On the international stage, Marmadashvili has so far been capped by Georgia on five occasions keeping three clean sheets as of writing this article.

Lucas Chevalier (67 OVR – 83 POT)

Team: LOSC Lille
Age: 18
Position: GK
Wage: £4,000 p/w
Value: £2.1 million
Best Attributes: 68 GK Diving, 67 GK Reflexes, 66 GK Handling

Lucas Chevalier has a long way to go to be a world-class keeper. His 67 overall means he may be a player to hold onto for the future especially given his 83 potential.

The 18-year-old needs some time to grow but there are some good initial stats to build on. His 68 diving and his 67 reflexes are a great baseline to work with. Given time and playing experience, these will both improve drastically.

The Frenchman spent last season out on loan to Valenciennes FC in the French second tier and has returned to LOSC Lille for this campaign. Last season he made 30 league appearances for Valenciennes FC and kept nine clean sheets conceding 35. On the international stage, Chevalier has made one appearance for the French U20 side so far.

Team: Gil Vicente FC
Age: 21
Position: GK
Wage: £3,000 p/w
Value: £2.9 million
Best Attributes: 72 GK Reflexes, 71 GK Diving, 69 GK Handling

Andrew, currently playing in Portugal’s top tier for Gil Vicente FC, has a rating of 70 overall but his 82 potential is what makes him an attractive purchase and a real bargain for anyone looking to add a youthful keeper to their Career Mode side.

The Brazilian numbers are seriously good for a potential young keeper. An impressive 72 reflexes will help him to react quickly to shots on goal and his 71 diving will aid him to get down to shots quickly and efficiently. His 64 kicking could use some improvement as distribution is a key part of the keeper’s role now but with time and experience that will improve.

The 21-year-old arrived in Portugal from Brazilian side Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas in the summer of 2021. Last season, Andrew battled to be the No.1 at Gil Vicente making 11 first-team appearances and managing to keep 5 clean sheets during that time.

Age: 21
Position: GK
Wage: £3,000 p/w
Value: £4 million
Best Attributes: 73 GK Reflexes, 72 GK Positioning, 72 GK Diving

Luiz Júnior looks to be a solid goalkeeper from the off with his decent 72 overall improving to 82 potential. He looks to be a good investment for any side as a backup initially but it won’t take long for the young Brazilian to be pushing for that No.1 spot.

The 21-year-old’s ratings are reasonable given his 73 reflexes and 72 diving. He also has 72 positioning which increases the likelihood that he will be in the right place at the right time when it comes to stopping shots that are goal bound.

Currently playing in the Primeira Liga with Famalicão, Júnior arrived from Brazilian side Mirassol-SP on a free transfer. Last season, the Brazilian shot-stopper made 37 first-team appearances – keeping 11 clean sheets over that campaign.

He is likely a player who could be signed and loaned out to gain experience for a few seasons and return to challenge your No.1 in years to come. He is likely a player who could be signed and loaned out to gain experience for a few seasons and return to challenge your No.1 in years to come.
