Wesley Fofana (148 CA / 175 PA)
Team: Leicester City
Current Ability / Potential Ability: 148 CA / 175 PA
Wage: £55,000 p/w
Value: £75-112 million
Best Positions: DC
Best Attributes: 16 Pace, 16 Jumping Reach, 15 Heading
We begin with Wesley Fofana, who is the best young French player in FM22. The 20-year-old Leicester City centre back who is proving to be hot property with the likes of Chelsea very interested in signing the Frenchman this summer.
Fofana has bags of potential with a very high 175 PA and is already playing at an impressive 148 CA. He possesses some fantastic attributes across his technical, mental, and physical categories. The 20-year-old has great aerial ability with 16 Jumping Reach and 15 Heading, and, considering that he stands at 6’3”, it’s fair to say he wins most aerial duels. This can prove beneficial at both ends of the pitch, and a near post corner routine could see him pick up his fair share of goals. He also has 16 Pace and 15 positioning so is likely to be able to keep up with the paciest striker whilst being in in the right areas to deal with any oncoming threat. His 13 Anticipation is also very respectable and will help him to predict the opponent’s next move, and with 15 Tackling, Fofana is winning most challenges too.
Wesley Fofana currently plays for Leicester City, where he arrived from Saint-Étienne for a fee of £31.5m. Fofana made 12 appearances last year for Leicester due to injury and scored a goal in what was a disappointing year for the young Frenchman. He is yet to feature for the French first team but has represented them at U21, earning five call ups.
Eduardo Camavinga (136 CA / 174 PA)
Team: Real Madrid
Current Ability / Potential Ability: 136 CA / 174 PA
Wage: £125,000 p/w
Value: £60-75 million
Best Positions: DM, MC
Best Attributes: 15 Tackling, 15 Determination, 14 Passing
Highly rated midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is part of the Champions League winning Real Madrid side. Camavinga has an incredible PA and with the right nurturing, his 136 CA will shoot up in no time at all.
Camavinga is one of the hottest prospects in world football and his attributes reflect that. In a defensive role he is very comfortable with 15 Tackling and 14 Marking but is equally adept at finding a man in space with his 14 Passing. The 18-year-old’s 15 Determination will help to ensure that he reaches his PA, especially with the right coaching staff and a decent mentor. Camavinga has all the right stats to be a fantastic deep lying playmaker, either slightly deeper or in a more central role.
The young Frenchman was signed by Real Madrid from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes for a fee of £27.9m. Camavinga made 46 first team appearances for Madrid last season, finishing the season with two goals and two assists. Despite his age Camavinga, has featured for the French national side on three occasions and has scored one goal.
Oumar Solet (130 CA / 166 PA)
Team: Red Bull Salzburg
Current Ability / Potential Ability: 130 CA / 166 PA
Wage: £3,800 p/w
Value: £10.5-15.5 million
Best Positions: DC, DM
Best Attributes: 15 Marking, 14 Passing, 15 Jumping Reach
Our third Frenchman is Oumar Solet, who currently plays for RB Salzburg in Austria. His affordable price, 166 PA, and 130 CA make him an appealing addition to any squad.
Solet has all the building blocks in place to become a fantastic ball playing defender with 14 Passing, 13 Technique and 12 Vision, while you can also add to this his player trait of ‘likes to bring ball out of defence’. He is solid as a central defender with 15 Marking, 13 Tackling, and 14 Positioning. The 6’4” 21-year-old is also strong in the air with 15 Jumping Reach and 13 Heading, so winning aerial battles shouldn’t be too much trouble, and he is another who could benefit from a nicely worked near post corner routine to bag some goals.
Solet moved to RB Salzburg in Summer 2020 having spent time with Stade Lavallois and Olympique Lyon before his £4.05m move to Austria. The centre back made 33 appearances across all competitions for Salzburg last season, scoring one goal and creating three. Solet has been capped up to U20 level internationally but has yet to be called up to the French first team.
Aurélien Tchouameni (135 CA / 164 PA)
Team: AS Monaco

Wage: £16,250 p/w
Value: £54–78 million
Best Positions: MC
Best Attributes: 16 Bravery, 15 Tackling, 15 Work Rate
AS Monaco’s Aurélien Tchouameni would be a great acquisition if you have the budget. His 135 CA is relatively close to his 164 PA, and his stats are already impressive.
The Frenchman could work with efficiency as a ball-winning midfielder breaking up play. With his 16 Bravery and 15 Tackling you can rely on him to get stuck in where it counts, while his 15 Work Rate paired with 15 Natural Fitness and 15 Stamina ensures he will keep going for the team. Tchouameni has a decent 14 Passing and 13 Vision, so has an eye for a pass and can open up opposing sides upon recovering the ball.
The 21-year-old is now at Real Madrid having moved this summer from AS Monaco for a transfer fee of £72m. Tchouameni made 50 appearances for Monaco last season, scoring five goals in all competitions and providing three for his teammates. The talented centre midfielder has been capped 12 times for France and has scored one goal for his country.
Rayan Cherki (138 CA / 163 PA)
Team: Olympique Lyon
Current Ability / Potential Ability: 112 CA / 163 PA
Wage: £16,500 p/w
Value: £13.5–17.5 million
Best Positions: AMRLC, ST
Best Attributes: 16 Dribbling, 16 Technique, 16 Flair
Rayan Cherki, the 17-year-old Olympique Lyon academy graduate, could be hot property in years to come courtesy of his 163 PA, but he will need some nurturing if he’s to develop from his 112 CA.
Cherki has some decent attributes for someone of his young age. With 16 Dribbling, 16 Technique, and 16 Flair he is sure to be able to glide or trick his way past opponents with style. The young Lyon man also has 15 Determination which will help him to reach his potential if coached and mentored correctly. He is a versatile player who is comfortable in a number of positions and is confident with both feet.
The teenage attacking midfielder made 20 first team appearances for Lyon last season and scored two goals, both in the Europa League, while he also contributed four assists for the team. Cherki is currently part of the French U21 side and has made four appearances, finding the net on four occasions.
Tanguy Nianzou (128 CA / 161 PA)
Team: Bayern München
Current Ability / Potential Ability: 128 CA / 161 PA
Wage: £66,000 p/w
Value: £18.5–22 million
Best Positions: DC, DM, MC
Best Attributes: 16 Determination, 15 Heading, 15 Pace
19-year-old Tanguy Nianzou is currently plying his trade in Germany for Bayern München, and his 161 PA makes him a very attractive transfer target.
Nianzou looks to be a very solid defender with some great numbers, starting with his 16 Determination which will help him to strive to reach that PA. He has 15 Strength so won’t be easily shoved off the ball, while has 15 Pace ensures he will be able to keep up with speedy attackers. Nianzou is confident with the ball at his feet, which can be seen in his 13 Technique, and he is a good passer of the ball, his 13 Passing making him a very useful ball-playing centre back.
Leaving Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer to join Bayern in 2020, Nianzou has made 22 first team appearances for the German champions, scoring one goal. In international football it is early days for Nianzou; he has been capped for U20 on ten occasions but is still awaiting an opportunity to break in to the first team.
Yann Gboho (110 CA / 160 PA)
Team: Stade Rennes (on loan at Vitesse)
Current Ability / Potential Ability: 110 CA / 160 PA
Wage: £3,100 p/w
Value: £11.5-13.5 million
Best Positions: AMLC, ST
Best Attributes: 14 Technique, 14 First Touch, 13 Acceleration
Currently on loan with Vitesse, Yann Gboho could prove to be an exciting prospect given time and experience, especially with his high ceiling 160 PA.
Gboho is an attacking midfielder who can also play on the left wing. He could play well as an advanced playmaker or shadow striker but could equally play out wide as an inverted winger or inside forward. The young Frenchman has some decent attributes in his technical section with 14 Technique and 14 First Touch, and he could also prove to be a goal threat with his 12 Finishing and 12 Long Shots.
The Stade Rennes man spent last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem where he made 30 appearances, scoring on three occasions and also picking up two assists. Gboho has played for his country at U16, U17, and U18 levels but is yet to be called up to the main squad.
