In 2020, Rockstar Games added the Cayo Perico Heist to GTA 5 Online. This left first-time players wondering how the heck they were supposed to get to the island. How was it possible to start the heist?
This heist is the single most lucrative one in the game, so it is definitely worth doing. However, don’t go in unprepared.

Where to find GTA 5 Cayo Perico
You can find GTA 5 Cayo Perico after going to the Music Locker below the Diamond Casino and Resort to meet with Miguel Madrazo. Afterward, you’ll need to buy a Kosatka submarine from Warstock Cache and Carry for $2.2 million. Once in the main room, the planning board can be used to start the heist.
You’ll want to do repeat playthroughs differently, though. You’ll have to steal a Velum 5-Seater in Blaine County and fly to a certain marker.
Once on the island, you’re free to explore.
The Cayo Perico Heist
The GTA 5 Cayo Perico Heist is, as stated, a good money-maker. You’re there to get some sensitive documents for the Madrazo family, which were stolen by a drug lord named El Rubio, who is trying to blackmail them. You have the option of completing the heist solo or bringing your team.
Your objective is to get to El Rubio’s office inside of the compound and help direct the sub’s navigator, Pavel, into his position. Make sure to grab some bolt cutters from the first warehouse you see and snap a picture, sending it to Pavel.
You’ll have ample opportunity to scout the island for goodies to steal before delving deeper into the quest. After you scout the island, you return to the mainland to plan the heist. You can choose to use the Kosatka sub, Velum, an Alkonost airplane, or a handful of boats for the heist. You’ll also need to choose your equipment wisely and to get the safe code for the files Madrazo wants you to snatch.
All in all, the heist involves a lot of prep work and is time-consuming, but ultimately is rewarding for serious players.

New Cayo Perico content added in 2022
As part of the 2022 update, Rockstar added a slew of vehicles to the heist, including the Grotti Itali RSX sports car, BF Weevil compact car, and the Shitzu Longfin speedboat. Of course, the Kosatka submarine is the most important of all these additions, as it did not previously exist. It has some optional updates to consider, including the Sparrow helicopter, guided missiles, Kraken Avisa minisub, and a weapons workshop.
Getting to GTA 5 Cayo Perico island for the heist is a challenging but rewarding experience. When played right, you can make out like the bandit that you are.
