In Grand Theft Auto 5 you’re almost always going to need money. Weapons, cars, property, and more all cost cash and you’ll need a lot of it whether you’re playing through the story or enjoying GTA Online. The good news is that the best way to make money in GTA 5 depends entirely on your playstyle since there are many ways to grind out the cash you need fast. And, of course, you can skip the grind altogether if you really want. More on that later.

1. Robbery
If you’re desperate for money and don’t need a ton of it, you can go rob people or stores. This is the fastest way to get money for trivial things like ammo or getting an inexpensive car fixed up fast. The downside is that if you’re trying to get rich, this method would take forever. Also, remember that if things go sideways and you end up in the hospital or get your car blown up by the cops, then this can be an easy way to lose money instead of making money.
2. Heists
Some consider heists to be the best way to make money in GTA 5 and for good reason. Successfully completing a heist can earn you between $500,000 on easy mode and $1.25 million on hard mode. The catch here is that it takes money to make money when it comes to heists since many of them have a steep start-up cost such as the $100,000 to do the Pacific Standard heist. This also means that you’ll need to have the skill to complete the heist as well as the patience to redo it if you fail since canceling the heist means losing the money you paid for the start-up.
3. Racing
Time trials can be the best way to make money in GTA 5 Online if you’re playing solo. They’re easy to find and don’t take long compared to other methods. The payout depends on the race and how well you do, but you can get up to $50,000 for a single win in some cases. The major drawback here is of course the fact that you have to be good enough to win these races.
4. Shark Cards
Though some people frown on the use of Shark Cards, they really are hands down the best way to make money in GTA 5. Yes, it is basically “pay to win” but the flip side is that earning the money you need to buy the Shark Cards in real life is typically a lot faster than the amount of time you would spend grinding for in-game money to get the same amount.

If your time is more important to you than money, real or virtual, then Shark Cards are the way to go. Just be aware that this can suck the feelings of fun and accomplishment out of the game if you go on a Shark Card spending spree instead of earning things legit.
