There’s no denying that it is difficult to make a bunch of Galleons early in Hogwarts Legacy. However, with the right tools and a few bits of trickery here and there, you can become the wealthiest and most powerful wizard of all time in Hogwarts. This guide will show you how.Â
In this guide, you’ll learn:
- How to lockpick in Hogwarts Legacy
- What quest should you do first to unlock lockpicking
- How to get the best gear possible
How to unlock Alohomora in Hogwarts Legacy

Alohomora is an essential utility spell that allows you to unlock rooms with locked doors, which usually contain furniture, Galleons, and valuable gear. They even have exotic armor sometimes.
During the Caretaker’s Lunar’s Lament main quest, you will meet a character named Gladwin Moon. He’ll task you with finding two Demiguise Statues, one located in the Hospital Wing and the other in the Prefects’ Bathroom. Before you start the quest, you’ll learn how to use the spell Alohomora. Note that you can only take Demiguise Statues during the night.

Unlocking doors requires you to enter a lockpicking minigame. The minigame can be a little confusing initially, but it’s pretty easy. Move one of the disks and hold the corresponding key until you see a twitch in the gears. Stop the disk where the gears turn and switch to the other disk. Once you’ve successfully managed to turn on two gears, you’ll see two light sources flash, indicating you’ve solved the puzzle.

When you manage to find these two Demiguise Statues, return to Moon and the quest will be complete. Congratulations, you’ve now learned how to use Alohomora and unlock doors.
Keep in mind that there are three levels in lockpicking, and unlocking them requires you to get a certain amount of Demiguise Statues all over the world. To upgrade Alohomora from Level 1 to Level 2, you need nine Demiguise Statues. To upgrade Alohomora from Level 2 to Level 3, you need 13 Demiguise Statues.
Savescumming for better rewards

Did you know lockpicking in Hogwarts Legacy yields random rewards? You can actually get better gear if you have the patience to savescum by manually saving and reloading every time.
In the photo below, there’s a chance to receive a low-tier reward in one of the chests. The quality is below average and doesn’t give much protection.

Right now, the current gear is better than the treasure chest drop. However, savescumming your way into better rewards is possible.

It can take a while to get lucky with the drops, but if you’re very lucky, it’s possible to get better rolls in one or two reloads. Sometimes, you’ll also get unidentified items. They are randomized by the quality and savescumming doesn’t guarantee you better loot.

Use the Room of Requirement to identify the gears and see if it’s worth the reload or not.
Now that you’ve learned how to lockpick in Hogwarts Legacy, go out there and start breaking into other people’s houses (in the game, not real life).
Don’t worry. There are no adverse side effects to your status as a wizard, even if you break into someone’s house in broad daylight or with the owners in front of you, as there is no karma system.

I’d also add that keeping an open mind has proved beneficial in my profession. This helps us to remain receptive to the endless possibilities that exist. What are your thoughts on this?
On a parting note, it would be interesting to explore how the principles you’ve shared could apply to other aspects of life. More food for thought for us, perhaps? Awaiting your take on this! Keep the insights coming!
