FIFA 22 Ratings: Best French Players

The 2018 World Cup winners struggled at Euro 2020, losing on penalties to Switzerland in the Round of 16 when many had them touted as the favourites to win the tournament. Superstar striker Kylian Mbappé missed the critical penalty to keep France in the shootout – a moment that he’ll forever seek to avenge.

The experienced Karim Benzema was brought back for Euro 2020 after a six-year absence to propel France forward, but it failed to do so. Moving forward, their biggest challenge seems to be how manager Didier Deschamps handles the multitude of talent present in the squad.

In this article, we will look at the best French players in FIFA 22. We begin with an in-depth look at the best seven players before providing a table at the foot of the article with all of the best French players in FIFA 22.

    Kylian Mbappé (91 OVR – 95 POT)

    Team: Paris Saint-Germain
    Best Position: ST
    Age: 22
    Overall Rating: 91
    Skill Moves: Five-Star
Best Attributes: 97 Acceleration, 97 Sprint Speed, 93 Finishing

Over 150 career goals, a World Cup winner, and the subject of the second most expensive transfer in history, and all by the age of 22. The future is bright for Kylian Mbappé.

Mbappé moved from AS Monaco to his hometown of Paris in 2018, months after scoring a goal in the World Cup final en route to a tournament win. Now back in Paris, the only question mark surrounding Mbappé is just how good he can be.

The pace and movement of the French prodigy makes it seem like other players are moving in slow motion. His 97 acceleration, 97 sprint speed, 93 finishing, and 92 positioning allow him to get to spots faster than other players, while he also has the ability to finish off attacking moves with a goal.

    N’Golo Kanté (90 OVR – 90 POT)

    Kante Screenshot

    Team: Chelsea
    Best Position: CDM
    Age: 30
    Overall Rating: 90
    Weak Foot: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 97 Stamina, 93 Standing Tackle, 93 Reactions

Kanté’s exponential rise to stardom is best evidenced by the titles that he’s won in consecutive years. In 2016, he won the league with Leicester. In 2017, he won the league with Chelsea. In 2018, he won the World Cup with France. In 2019, he won the Europa League. Finally, in 2020, he landed the Champions League, also with Chelsea.

Kanté is not the most physically imposing player, but his work rate and ability to be in the right place at the right time is invaluable; at times, it gives him the presence of two players.

With 97 stamina, 93 aggression, 93 standing tackle, 91 interceptions, and 90 marking, the midfielder from Paris excels in every area that you would want from a defensive midfielder breaking up the attacking play. His 92 balance and 82 agility allow him to change direction quickly and either keep up with an attacker, or turn away from defenders efficiently.

    Karim Benzema (89 OVR – 89 POT)

    Team: Real Madrid
    Best Position: CF
    Age: 33
    Overall Rating: 89
    Weak Foot: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 91 Reactions, 90 Positioning, 90 Finishing

The Lyon-born Karim Benzema began his professional career for his hometown side before moving to current club Real Madrid in 2009. Since joining the Spanish giants, Benzema has scored 284 goals in 564 games with 148 assists.

Benzema made his debut for France in 2007, but recently missed six years between 2015 and 2021 after he fell out of the squad. France’s manager Didier Deschamps, however, recently made the decision to end that hiatus, putting the talented scorer back in the side in the lead-up to Euro 2020.

Beyond Benzema’s world class 90 finishing, 90 positioning, and 90 composure that allow him to score goals, his link-up play stands out amongst players similar to him. His 90 ball control, 87 vision, and 86 short passing all enable Benzema to set up teammates at a very effective rate.

    Paul Pogba (87 OVR – 87 POT)

    Pogba Screenshot

    Team: Manchester United
    Best Position: CM
    Age: 28
    Overall Rating: 87
    Skill Move: Five-Star

Best Attributes: 92 Long Passing, 90 Shot Power, 90 Ball Control

Manchester United let a young Paul Pogba go to Juventus in 2012, but four years later, they bought him back for a fee around £95 million. During his time with the Old Lady, Pogba won four Italian league titles.

Pogba’s proudest achievement may be his 2018 World Cup win with France. He played all but one game in the competition and scored in the final, helping France to beat Croatia 4-2.

Pogba’s ability to find players far up the pitch stand out amongst his skills on FIFA 22 with 92 long passing and 89 vision. His 90 ball control and 88 dribbling along with his 89 strength also make him hard to tackle and dispossess in the middle of the park.

    Hugo Lloris (87 OVR – 87 POT)

    Team: Tottenham Hotspur
    Best Position: GK
    Age: 35
    Overall Rating: 87
    Weak Foot: One-Star
Best Attributes: 90 Reflexes, 88 Diving, 84 Positioning

Last season, Hugo Lloris passed 100 clean sheets in the Premier League. Despite the fact that he is now 33 years of age, the Tottenham captain is still one of the best goalkeepers in the division.

The Frenchman did his best to keep France in Euro 2020 by saving Ricardo Rodriguez’s penalty in regular time. It was a moment that is probably among the best throughout his 132 caps for Les Blues, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to stop the Swiss.

Most goalkeepers are better with their hands than their feet, and this statement is even more true with Hugo Lloris in FIFA 22. His one-star weak foot and 65 kicking emphasise his need to throw the ball to distribute it to teammates. However, with 90 reflexes and 88 diving, Lloris is one of the best shot-stoppers in the game.

    Raphaël Varane (86 OVR – 88 POT)

    Team: Manchester United
    Best Position: CB
    Age: 28
    Overall Rating: 86
    Weak Foot: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 88 Standing Tackle, 87 Sliding Tackle, 86 Marking

A single season at Lens was enough for Real Madrid to swoop in for Varane when he was just 18-years-old. The centre-half from Lille went on to play 360 games for Madrid, then making the move to Manchester United this summer.

After missing Euro 2016 through injury, Varane played every single minute of France’s World Cup winning campaign in 2018. This summer, he went to the European Championship, but unfortunately, France couldn’t match their 2018 World Cup success.

A favourite on recent FIFA titles because of his 79 acceleration and 85 sprint speed, Varane has the ability to catch attacking players who most other centre backs cannot. At 27-years-old, his 86 marking, 88 standing tackle, and 87 sliding tackle make him a solid centre back, with some of his best years still ahead of him.

    Kingsley Coman (86 OVR – 87 POT)

    Coman Screenshot

    Team: Bayern Munich
    Best Position: LM
    Age: 25
    Overall Rating: 86
    Skill Moves: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 94 Acceleration, 93 Sprint Speed, 91 Agility

Not many 25-year-old players can say that they’ve won league titles in France, Germany, and Italy. Coman has played for some of Europe’s best teams in his relatively young career, but in that time, he has never scored more than ten goals and has only racked up more than ten assists once.

Coman must be miffed that he wasn’t able to participate in France’s World Cup winning run in 2018 after an ankle injury kept him out. Despite missing that tournament, however, the Frenchman has already played 34 times for the national side, scoring five goals in that time.

The fleet-footed forward excels in the areas that you would expect from a top wide player. His 94 acceleration and 93 sprint speed, along with 91 agility, 89 dribbling, and 88 ball control make him a menace for defenders trying to stop him. His 85 positioning also allows him to get into the box and on the end of crosses.
