France, as a footballing nation, is currently in the midst of a golden generation, featuring elite-level talent and superstar personalities to drive the national team forward.
The start of this came in 2016 when France made it to the Final of the Euros, with the team going on to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
This article showcases the highest-rated French players of FIFA 21: the top-five feature in the body of the article. At the foot, you’ll find a table of the French players who have an overall rating of 81 and above.
Kylian Mbappé (90 OVR)
Team: Paris Saint-Germain
Overall Rating: 90
Skill Moves: 5-Star
Best Attributes: 96 Acceleration, 96 Sprint Speed, 92 Dribbling
At 21-years-old, Kylian Mbappé has almost achieved everything that a footballer could hope to in their career. Mbappé boasts domestic success as a four-time Ligue 1 champion and two French Cup wins, individual successes as the two-time French Footballer of the Year, and he’s a World Cup winner.
All that eludes him is the Champions League, which Paris Saint-Germain came agonisingly close to winning last season. Mbappé was on his way to another stellar season in Ligue 1; however, the pandemic cut short the French season. Despite this, his 18 goals and seven assists in 20 league games is an outstanding record.
In FIFA 21, Mbappé will be the most sought-after striker in the game. His electric pace of 96 acceleration and 96 sprint speed will make the PSG striker a handful, especially on counter-attacks.
He is also superb with ball, with a rating of 92 dribbling ensuring that Mbappé can take over the game. Mbappé’s pace makes him an asset out wide, but to make the most of the Parisian, up top is where you should start him.
Karim Benzema (89 OVR)
Team: Real Madrid
Overall Rating: 89
Best Attributes: 91 Heading Accuracy, 91 Reactions, 90 Positioning
It’s crazy to think that in Karim Benzema’s entire professional career, he has only played for two clubs: Olympique Lyonnais and Real Madrid.
It’s impressive, considering his efforts away from the national team seem to have been forever tarnished due to his relationship with Didier Deschamps.
Since being left out of the national team set-up, Benzema has torn-up La Liga. The 2018/19 season saw the Lyon-native score 21 goals, which he followed with another 21 goal season, this time leading Real Madrid to the title.
Benzema is a very good option to have in your squad. He’s dangerous in the air (91 heading accuracy) and is well-versed in being in the right place at the right time, as shown by his 91 reactions and 90 positioning. At this period of his career, playing him up top in a front three is the best option.
N’Golo Kanté (88 OVR)
Team: Chelsea FC
Overall Rating: 88
Weak Foot: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 96 Stamina, 92 Balance, 91 Reactions
The second Parisian to feature in the top-five for France is N’Golo Kanté. The humble and impressive midfielder has carved out an impressive career in the Premier League. Two Premier League titles and Europa League success makes Kanté a more than accomplished player at club level.
His strengths are his is incredible ability to cover virtually every blade of grass, and his defence-first mentality ensures that the defence is less exposed.
The strengths outlined are very much representative of his rating in FIFA 21. That endless running power is rewarded with 96 stamina, and his ability to be reactive and remain in control are shown through his 92 balance and 91 reactions.
There are two main ways to use Kanté in FIFA 21. You can deploy the Frenchman in the number-eight role of a 4-2-3-1 formation, where he has additional support on either side. Or, in a 4-1-4-1, where Kanté is the number-six with two central midfielders in front of him.
Antoine Griezmann (87 OVR)
Team: FC Barcelona
Best Position: ST
Overall Rating: 87
Skill Moves: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 92 Reactions, 91 Agility, 90 Jumping
Nobody will question the talent that Antoine Griezmann has: a player with absolute quality and virtually every team in the world be happy to have him. However, the move to Barcelona last season hasn’t been a success so far.
This is outlined by his lack of scoring punch last season, with Griezmann managing a mere nine goals in La Liga, marking the first time that he hasn’t scored in double-figures in the league since 2011/12 with Real Sociedad. Last season also saw Barcelona go without a trophy for the first time in 13 years.
Fortunately, from a FIFA 21 player perspective, Griezmann is still an offensive weapon. His 92 reactions, 91 agility, and 90 jumping make him a flexible option going forward. Like Mbappé, you could play Griezmann out wide, but it’s recommended that he remains central.
His best football at Atlético Madrid came as a centre forward, and with the departure of Luis Suarez, we could see more of Griezmann in his preferred position at Barça.
Aymeric Laporte (87 OVR)
Team: Manchester City
Best Position: CB
Overall Rating: 87
Weak Foot: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 89 Standing Tackle, 89 Marking, 88 Sliding Tackle
The only centre back to feature in the top-five of our French player rating list is Aymeric Laporte. The Agen-native has been with Manchester City since January of 2018, going on to make 85 appearances in all competitions so far.
His biggest issue last season was staying healthy. Laporte is a regular fixture when available for Pep Guardiola, and for a good reason: the club averages 2.59 points per game when the Frenchman is on the pitch in the Premier League.
Ratings-wise, Laporte is an outstanding defensive option, especially when making a tackle. His 89 standing tackle and 88 sliding tackle are very strong, but he also has a lofty 89 marking rating.
If you have a back-three of back-four, Laporte is at his best when deployed as a left-sided centre back.
