FIFA 22 Ratings: Best Italian Players

How good are the Euro 2020 Champions?

Over the summer, Italy won their first European Championship since 1968 when they beat England on penalties. It was their first major international tournament win for 15 years, having won the World Cup in 2006.

The Azzurri didn’t go into Euro 2020 as the favourites, but their solidity and effective style of play under Roberto Mancini saw them continually exceed expectations. The consensus was that Italy were going through a transitionary period heading into the tournament. As it turned out, however, the veterans weren’t done yet, and they were instrumental in leading Italy’s future stars to victory.

In this article, we’ve listed the best Italian players in FIFA 22. It begins with an in-depth look at the top seven players before providing a list of all of the best Italian players.

Gianluigi Donnarumma (89 OVR – 93 POT)

Team: Paris Saint-Germain
Best Position: GK
Age: 22
Overall Rating: 89
Weak Foot: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 91 GK Diving, 90 GK Reflexes, 85 Positioning

Donnarumma had played 251 games for AC Milan by the age of 22. He left during the summer to join French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The goalkeeper will have stiff competition for the coveted number one spot at PSG, with the experienced Keylor Navas having established himself in the position over the past couple of years.

Now that Buffon has retired, Donnarumma has established himself at Italy’s number one goalkeeper. He has already made 36 appearances for Italy, including every game of their Euro 2020 run.

The only part of Donnarumma’s game to be cautious of in FIFA 22 is his 79 kicking. Beyond that, his 91 diving, 90 reflexes, 85 positioning, and 83 handling are all world-class attributes for arguably the best young goalie in world football.

Marco Verratti (87 OVR – 87 POT)

Team: Paris Saint-Germain
Best Position: CM
Age: 29
Overall Rating: 87
Weak Foot: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 94 Composure, 94 Balance, 92 Ball Control

Marco Verratti joined Paris Saint-Germain from his hometown club Pescara in 2012. Since then, he has played just shy of 350 games, racked up nearly 60 assists, and has 27 domestic trophies to his name.

A player who has been riddled with injuries, which have hampered his international career, Verratti was able to play in all of Italy’s knockout games at this year’s Euro 2020. In the final, he played 96 minutes before coming off for Manuel Locatelli.

Verratti excels in all of the areas that you need for a central midfielder. On the ball, he’s fantastic with 92 ball control and 91 dribbling, while his distribution is also great with 90 short passing, 89 vision, and 89 long passing. His 94 composure, 94 balance, and 91 agility allow him to find the space to get the attack going.

Ciro Immobile (87 OVR – 87 POT)

Team: Latium (Lazio)
Best Position: ST
Age: 31
Overall Rating: 87
Weak Foot: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 91 Positioning, 91 Finishing, 90 Reactions

Having scored goals in Germany, Spain, and Italy playing for seven different clubs, Immobile seems to have found a home in Rome. The Lazio striker has scored over 150 goals for the club, including 36 in 37 Serie A games in 2019/20.

The 31-year-old scored his first goals in a major tournament at Euro 2020, netting two in two games to begin the tournament. After being benched for Italy’s penultimate group game, he couldn’t find his form and was unable to score in the subsequent games, but Italy still came out of the tournament as the winners.

Immobile is the epitome of a clinical finisher and fox in the box. With 91 finishing, 91 positioning, and 90 reactions, Immobile can find space and put the ball into the back of the net in the tightest of scenarios. His 84 acceleration and 87 sprint speed mean that he’s also good at peeling off of defenders.

Lorenzo Insigne (86 OVR – 86 POT)

Team: Napoli
Best Position: LW
Age: 30
Overall Rating: 86
Weak Foot: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 93 Balance, 93 Ball Control, 90 Dribbling

With the exception of three loan spells early on in his career, Lorenzo Insigne has spent his career exclusively with Napoli. In that time, he’s scored 110 goals in 402 games for the side from Naples.

Insigne made his debut for Italy at the age of 21. Since then, he has played 49 times for his country, netting ten goals and assisting nine more. He scored twice on Italy’s road to glory over the summer.

Insigne’s low centre of gravity makes him extremely difficult to contain with 93 balance, 90 acceleration, and 89 agility. His 93 ball control and 90 dribbling make him lethal when attacking defenders on either flank.

Giorgio Chiellini (86 OVR – 86 POT)

Team: Juventus
Best Position: CB
Age: 37
Overall Rating: 86
Weak Foot: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 93 Marking, 91 Jumping, 91 Strength

Giorgio Chiellini joined Juventus from Fiorentina way back in 2005. Although he played as a left midfielder for Fiorentina for 17 games, he ultimately reverted to centre back, where he has played ever since. In the last 16 years for the Old Lady, he’s played 538 times, scoring 36 goals in that time.

Even though has won nine Serie A titles in his illustrious career, Chiellini’s proudest achievement may be winning Euro 2020 this summer and being voted the best defender of the competition at 37-years-old.

Intelligence over speed is Chiellini’s mantra in FIFA 22. With only 69 sprint speed and 67 acceleration, it’s his 93 marking, 91 strength, 91 jumping, and 89 interceptions that make him a force along the back line.

Jorginho (85 OVR – 85 POT)

Team: Chelsea
Best Position: CM
Age: 30
Overall Rating: 85
Weak Foot: Three-Star
Best Attributes: 92 Short Passing, 91 Penalties, 89 Long Passing

Best known for his unique penalty-taking style, Jorginho is an understated central midfielder who is adept at keeping possession. Maurizio Sarri brought Jorginho with him from Napoli to Chelsea in 2018, but the 30-year-old midfielder has outlasted his manager and remained one of Chelsea’s key players.

Statistically, Jorginho doesn’t stand out from the crowd. However, he played every minute of the Euro 2020 final and also Chelsea’s Champions League final, winning both and showing his worth in big games.

Jorginho’s most effective goal scoring method is from the penalty spot, with 91 penalties in FIFA 22. Beyond that, his passing ability is world class with 92 short passing, 89 long passing, and 88 vision.

Leonardo Bonucci (85 OVR – 85 POT)

Team: Juventus
Best Position: CB
Age: 34
Overall Rating: 85
Weak Foot: Four-Star
Best Attributes: 90 Jumping, 88 Marking, 86 Interceptions

A solitary year in Milan in 2017/18 aside, Leonardo Bonucci has been an integral part of Juventus ever since he arrived in 2010. His partnership with Chiellini is arguably one of the most solid defensive partnerships of the last ten years for both club and country.

Two World Cup and two Euro participant achievements were eclipsed as career highlights this summer when Italy won Euro 2020. Bonucci played a key role in that tournament, scoring Italy’s only goal in regular time and scoring his penalty to help them beat England in the final.

What Bonucci lacks in pace he makes up for in power and defensive ability. The 90 jumping and 97 strength make him lethal in the air in both boxes. His 88 marking, 86 interceptions, and 85 standing tackle allow him to break up the attacking teams’ momentum.
